GimbalGun aims to spread the load for videographers

08 Mar

If you find your biceps bursting through the arm of your shirt at the end of a day’s video shoot you might be glad of something to make your gimbal feel a little less heavy. A project about to be launched on Kickstarter claims to have the answer – GimbalGun.

GimbalGun is a support system that aims to take the weight of a gimbal and associated accessories off the operator’s arm and onto his or her shoulder and upper back. The device consists of a long metal box to which a single-handed gimbal can be mounted and a shoulder strap that helps redistribute the weight of the gimbal and camera. GimbalGun has a number of 1/4in thread holes that allow monitors, microphones, tripods and a host of other accessories to be attached as well, so the whole set-up can be supported on the same system.

The manufacturer claims that GimbalGun lets videographers shoot longer without getting tired, and that it also provides the means to mount monitors and microphones in more effective positions than when they are simply attached to the gimbal handle. Users can choose whether to suspend the GimbleGun from a shoulder using the strap, or to mount it on the shoulder like a bazooka.

The device is made from lightweight aluminium alloy and is hollow, but it is also quite big and must add a significant weight itself to any videographer’s kit. Sample footage is available for inspection on the GimbleGun website…that was shot while the videographer drank a coffee with his spare hand.

The Kickstarter page is in draft mode and the campaign hasn’t started yet, but you can see more information there. It looks as though GimbalGun will cost $ 200, but discounts will be available for early-bird supporters.

Novoflex’s new TrioPod PRO75 modular tripod can handle ‘immense load’

15 Mar

Novoflex has announced an expansion of its TrioPod tripod product line with the launch of the TrioPod PRO75 model. This is a high-capacity advanced spider tripod, according to Novoflex, which claims that the PRO75 model can be used “for even the heaviest photo and video equipment.”

Novoflex explains that its new PRO75 tripod is constructed with 8-layered carbon fiber legs alongside reinforced components. Buyers have a choice between three or four-section carbon fiber legs, as well as a pair of mini legs. The PRO75 model also supports existing TrioPod legs.

The PRO base by itself will run you over $ 880 USD.

The TrioPod PRO75 model can support a maximum load of 65kg / 143lbs and has a total of seven leg lock positions at 23-, 43-, 45-, 65-, 87-, 155-, and 180-degrees. The tripod is made with a high level of versatility in mind, offering support for most 75mm accessories and both 1/4″ and 3/8″ connections, a removable base plate for using a leveling ball, and a self-locking geared center column.

Of course, all of these capabilities are going to cost you a pretty penny. The TrioPod PRO75 base alone, without legs, costs a whopping $ 885.28. Add 3-section carbon fibre legs (plus 2 mini legs) to the kit and you’re looking at $ 1,476.64, while a set of 4-section legs by themselves will run you $ 663.52.

To find out more about the TrioPod PRO75 lineup or order some bits and pieces for yourself, head over to the Novoflex website.

Introducing the NOVOFLEX TrioPod PRO75

The new Modular Tripod of choice for discerning professionals looking for the sturdiest, modular support solution.

For almost four years, the NOVOFLEX TrioPod tripod collection has been lauded as the most innovative tripod system on the market. The Product Innovation Team at NOVOFLEX is proud to announce the expansion of this tripod series with a modular, high-capacity tripod system, the TrioPod PRO75.

Exceptionally stable and modular with immense load capacity.

The basis for the all-new TrioPod PRO75 is the advanced tripod spider, which offers exceptional stability and immense load capacity. Thanks to the reinforced design of the individual components and new 8-layered carbon fiber legs, this modular tripod can be used for even the heaviest photo and video equipment.

The system can be purchased with 3 or 4 section carbon fiber legs plus two mini legs for maximum versatility.

In addition to the recommended new tripod legs C3930 and C3940, existing TrioPod legs can also be used with the new TrioPod PRO75 as well. With the optionally available carbon leg extensions, a total height of 79 in./2.0 m is possible. Short 2-segment carbon fiber legs C2820 are also available allowing you to achieve completely new perspectives and are even compatible with the existing TrioPod and QuadroPod Systems.

Features

Maximum Load Capacity – 143 lbs/65 kg – Maximum holding capacity for maximum protection.

Removable Base Plate – A new feature of the tripod spider is the removable base plate that easily be detached and replaced with the optional leveling ball (MBAL-PRO75) or a geared center column (TRIO-CC-PRO75).

Unmatched Versatility – To build your tripod to meet the needs of any job the PRO75 can fit most 75mm accessories, even from other manufacturers. The optional leveling ball (MBAL-PRO75) can also be used with any other tripod you may have with a ¼” & 3/8” connection.

Self-Locking Geared Center Column – The innovative 3/8” studs on both ends of the geared center column provide an extra measure of security and compatibility by taking the load off the ¼” threads. The column itself can be adjusted by 19 in./48 cm.

7 Leg Lock Positions for Any Situation – For shoots on level surfaces, the TrioPod PRO75 spider allows the legs to be set at 23°, 45°, 65°, and 87°. Should you find yourself in a more confined space, a further locking position of 155° enables you to support the tripod against vertical surfaces. Particularly innovative is a new 43° angle that allows the tripod to flip upside down quickly for ground-level work, eliminating the need to reverse the center column and/or tripod head. For easy packaging, the legs can also be folded up at 180°.

Pallet-Furniture-Montage
Pallets have become all the rage as eco-friendliness, and DIY crafting are becoming the spearhead of a new movement that utilizes pallets as the building blocks for creative weekend projects. Social media sites like Pinterest make sharing off-the-wall ideas as easy as a click, so the mind boggling variety of uses for used pallets are out there for everyone to see.

Pallet coffee tables have a great advantage in that they’re designed to bear weight and stack, making it easy to form them into any shape you’d like. They also have natural gaps that make for an awesome storage space to hide the pile of coffee table stuff (remotes, magazines, etc.) that love to build up. The top left example easily rolls across the floor, and is topped with classy panes of glass to separate the storage space from the usable top of the table. Craftynester came up with an awesome design, and posted it along with step by step progress photos to show others how to copy them. They achieved the perfect coffee table height by using several pallets, and in the process they were able to create a cubby system for storage. Etsy seller GeckosHyde came up with this classy design that forgoes storage for a rustic look.

Pallet Porch Swings

Swinging seats are a lot of fun, and the perfect way to hang out on a gorgeous Spring day. The top left chair is definitely unique – as a one-seater was created by cannibalizing the boards from a full pallet and carefully attaching them with rope. The second example maintains the original form of two pallets and creates a comfortable looking two seater using some stain, paint, and really soft cushions. The final example is more like an adventurer’s hammock, utilizing the pallet structure to allow for the perfect outside nap.

The site Inspiration Green has some excellent pallet inspiration images, including these two that display an incredibly unique and comfortable way to set up a home theater. Imagine the cost of six leather armchairs, versus three tiers of stadium seating made out of pallet stacks.

The top image depicts one of the most natural pallet transformations out there, as an entire pallet was placed on top of four table legs to create the perfect rustic seating area. The rugged wood matches perfectly with the decor and keeps it looking super trendy. Sassy Sparrow has a fantastic step by step guide to creating the perfect patio furniture set out of pallets. You can see it here, and the final result is displayed above. Notice the versatility of the pallets, as they can be used in different ways to craft every type of furniture. Last but not least, Shelterness shows these two super easy to make pallet lounge chairs. It might be good to add some cushions to the design, but they certainly look amazing.

Don’t have much room on the porch, but want a full garden? This is by far the easiest pallet project. Simply secure a pallet against the wall, and use its natural shape to house a variety of flowers and herbs into a mini vertical garden. It’s possible to line up a bunch of these in a row if vegetables are on the menu year round.

The recently introduced Nikon edition of lens cups. This model is made after the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED lens. Of the two versions available on the market, this is the rotatable/zoom-able model which, as illustrated in the video, has the ability to extend its body like an actual lens. Another additional feature compared to the Canon models is that the Nikon cups now include watertight covers (also shown in video) which allow safe storage of your beverages, both hot and cold, within the confinement of your traveling bags or even camera bags. This model in particular even comes with a free padded bag which can be used for the actual lens too! Anyone interested in ordering these cups can reach me by leaving me a comment with your email address. Enjoy!
