Nikon has unveiled the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 ED VR (27-450mm equivalent). It doesn’t replace the company’s existing 18-300mm lens – rather it’s 1/3-stop slower at the long end and 30% lighter, weighing 19.4 ounces. The new 18-300mm has Nikon’s Vibration Reduction system, which can reduce shake by up to 4 stops. Built with three Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements and Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor for quieter focusing, the 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 will be available in May for $ 899.95.

PixProS-1-520.jpg

Kodak famously failed to adapt to the transition from film to digital photography, and finally stopped making digital cameras in early 2012. Now the famous old brand has been resurrected by JK Imaging Ltd, which is producing cameras in partnership with Asia Optical. We got a quick look at some of the 2014 product portfolio earlier this year at CES but this week we had a more detailed briefing at a European press event. Click through to take a closer look.

Cokin revamps square filter lineup as ‘Creative Filter System’

06 Sep

CFS-logo.jpg

Cokin has announced a complete overhaul of the branding and packaging of its square filters. The existing different-sized ranges ( ‘A’, ‘P’, ‘Z-Pro’ and ‘X-Pro’) have been rebranded into a single ‘Creative Filter System’, with the four sizes relabelled ‘S’, ‘M’, ‘L’ and ‘XL’. Gone are the old bulky plastic storage boxes too, replaced by a slimmer ‘SlidePack’ design which takes up half the space, and uses a microfibre-lined sleeve to help keep your filters clean. Photographers nostalgic for the good old days can breathe a sigh of relief though – old classics such as Tobacco Grads and Sunset filters are still in the catalogue.

The LZ30 features a large, 3.0″, 460k dot LCD and uses a CCD sensor, restricting it to 720p HD video output. Canon updates lineup with Elph 130 IS, PowerShot A3500 IS, A2600 & A1400

07 Jan

canon_elph130.png

Canon has refreshed its lineup of compact cameras with the launches of the Elph 130 IS and the PowerShots A3500 IS, A2600 and A1400. The Elph 130 IS (called the IXUS 140 in Europe), features an 8X, 28-244mm equivalent zoom in front of a 16MP CCD sensor. Although it features Wi-Fi, it does not promise the PowerShot N’s one-touch convenience and uses a previous-generation Digic 4 processor. The A3500 IS is also Wi-Fi capable but features a 5x, 28-140mm equivalent, stabilized lens and the same 16MP sensor. The less expensive A2600 loses the A3500 IS’s stabilization and Wi-Fi, while the AA-battery-powered A1400 gains an optical viewfinder.
