Connect: Using your tablet as a photographic light source

23 Oct

Connect: when you’re not using it to browse the web, show-off your photos or check your e-mail, have you considered using your tablet computer as a light source for photography. It may not offer a high-speed sync mode but, with an inexpensive app, it can open up some creative opportunities.

I shot this video with my Nikon D7000 around the house and mostly in my room. I’m using the kit lens 18-105 mm. I’m thinking of buying the Nikon 50mm 1.8G or the Nikon 35mm 1.8G. Which do you recommend? Hope you like it and more videos will be uploaded soon. All rights reserved for the music — Give it away by Zero 7 Subscribe 🙂 Matt

Fast, Light, Sharp and Cheap – The Canon 50mm f/1.8 EF II Lens

02 Aug

www.robnunnphoto.com The EF 50mm f belongs in the camera bag of every Canon photographer – it’s Canon’s cheapest lens, yet this great little prime offers sharp images, great low-light capability and fantastic selective focus options. The 50mm is more like the 35mm equivalent of an 80mm on a crop sensor camera, it’s slightly telephoto, so you’ll find yourself moving back a little if you’re into landscapes – but it’s a great portrait focal length. Build quality isn’t the best – but what do you expect for £100? Get one, stick it on your camera and have some fun. Cheers, Rob. Oh, and did I mention it’s cheap? 😉

First time i tried this great song. I am glad they play it at the current tour. I don’t really know how to play the end so i improvised a little bit. Maybe somebody can send me the correct tabs for the end of the song, but i love variation anyway so its ok for me. Enjoy ! Gear used: Epiphone Sheraton II with TV Jones classic pups, AxeFx Ultra, Presonus Firestudio project and recorded with Cakewalk Sonar 8 PE, filmed with Nikon D90 50mm f1.8

Lytro Light Field Camera now works with Windows

01 Aug

lytro_lfc8gb.png

Lytro, the maker of the Lytro Lightfield Camera, has today announced that its ‘Lytro Desktop Application’ – the software that allows you to ‘refocus’ light-field images after they have been taken, is now available for Microsoft Windows. You’ll need to run the 64bit version of Windows Home, Professional or Ultimate on a computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo or better processor and at least 2GB RAM. At the same time the company announced two new accessories – a USB wall charger and a tripod mount, which are available for around $ 20 each.

Book Review: Sketching Light by Joe McNally

31 Jul

CoverMacNally.jpg

Bestselling author Joe McNally (The Moment It Clicks and The Hotshoe Diaries) has written another accessible, entertaining book – Sketching Light: An Illustrated Tour of the Possibilities of Flash. In contrast to his earlier volumes, which were often rich with images and reminiscences from his storied editorial career, his latest book is more technical, covering methods for creating and shaping light using all manner of strobes. This is far from a prescriptive ‘how to’ guide though, says Adam Koplan.
