Fotodiox’s new adapter gives Leica M-mount lenses autofocus on Fujifilm X series cameras

Fotodiox’s new Pro Pronto AF adapter is finally available to pre-order. Announced a few months ago, the specialized adapter lets you autofocus Leica M-mount lenses with Fujifilm X series cameras.

The first adapter of this kind was the Techart Leica M-mount to Sony E-mount adapter released back in 2016. Fotodiox followed up with its own M-mount to E-mount adapter, but this is the first time we’ve seen one for Fujifilm X-mount cameras.

The adapter, which supports lenses up to 680g (1.5lbs), is constructed from brass and an aluminum alloy, and uses an integrated helicoid mechanism to extend and retract the lens using AF-S or AF-C contrast-detection autofocus.

The Fotodiox Pro Pronto AF adapter is available to pre-order now for $ 350. The Leica M-mount to Sony E-mount version is still available for $ 250.

Canon releases firmware updates for the EOS R and 7 RF lenses

Canon has released new firmware updates for its EOS R camera and a handful of its RF-mount lenses. The updates bring support for Canon’s latest lenses to the EOS R and improve compatibility between the in-lens stabilization and in-body stabilization of the EOS R5 and R6 with RF-mount lenses.

Firmware version 1.7.0 for the Canon EOS R adds support for Canon’s RF 600mm F11 STM, 800mm F11 STM, RF 1.4x teleconverter, RF 2x teleconverter and the new LP-E6NH Battery Pack. No further bug fixes were addressed in this firmware update, but Canon does say the using the EOS R’s multifunction bar in playback mode has been improved.

Canon has also released updated firmware for seven of its IS-capable RF-mount lenses so they will better work alongside the sensor-shift image stabilization inside Canon’s new R5 and R6 mirrorless cameras. Below are the lenses getting the new update:

  • RF 15–35mm f/2.8L IS USM
  • RF 24–70mm f/2.8L IS USM
  • RF 24–105mm f/4–7.1 IS STM
  • RF 24–105mm f/4L IS USM
  • RF 24–240mm f/4–6.3 IS USM
  • RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM
  • RF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS USM

You can download firmware version 1.70 for the EOS R and all of the lens firmware updates from Canon Canada’s website, as the Canon USA website is still down due to a recent hack.

Zenit teases upcoming 60mm F2.8 macro, 58mm F1.9 and 35mm F2 lenses

Over the past week, Zenit has announced three new lenses: the Zenitar 60mm F2.8 macro lens, the Selena 58mm F1.9 lens and the Zenitar 35mm F2 lens. All three lenses will feature electronically-controlled apertures and are set to be available later this year.

Zenit doesn’t divulge too many details about the lenses, aside from the most basic specifications. In machine-translated press releases, Zenit says all three lenses will be constructed in the S. A. Zverev (KMZ) factory in Krasnogorsk, Russia, which has a long history of producing cameras and optics.

The Zenitar 60mm F2.8 macro lens will offer a 1:1 magnification ratio and feature a minimum focusing distance of 23cm (9”). Information on the Selena 58mm F1.9 is even more scarce, with no other specifications outside of the focal length and maximum aperture being revealed. Both the Zenitar 60mm F2.8 and Selena 58mm F1.9 will be available in Canon EF and Nikon F mount at release.

As with the previous two lenses, detailed specifications of the Zenitar 35mm F2 aren’t provided, but we do know it will be available for Sony E-mount cameras. Zenit says it plans to release future versions for other mirrorless mounts as well.

All three lenses are set to go on sale in the United States, Germany, Italy and China through Zenit’s online store and authorized retailers. The press releases suggest the lenses will be made available during the International Forum on Photography and Video Filming, which takes place from October 8–10 in Moscow.


Update (August 10, 2020 10:00 AM ET): Added details about the forthcoming Zenitar 35mm F2 lens and confirmed the mount options for the Zenitar 60mm F2.8 macro and Selena 58mm F1.9.

Venus Optics is now offering six of its most popular Laowa lenses for L-mount cameras

Venus Optics has announced it’s now offering six of its most popular Laowa lenses for L-mount camera systems. The new lenses feature the same optical designs as their respective DSLR and mirrorless equivalents but are designed specifically for use with Leica CL, Leica SL, Panasonic S1 and Sigma fp cameras.

The six ‘new’ L-mount lenses are as follows:

Ricoh shares additional information about its upcoming APS-C DSLR, lenses

In a video shared to YouTube yesterday, Ricoh offered more information on its upcoming Pentax APS-C DSLR. The video, embedded above, is the latest in a series that Ricoh is creating ‘to reinforce its commitment to DSLR photography.’

The 24-minute video, which offers embedded translated subtitles in English, is a dialogue between professional photographer Keita Sasaki and Wakashiro Shigeru of Ricoh’s Product Planning department.

The pair give a little hands-on with the new camera and lenses and discuss many facets of the upcoming Pentax APS-C DSLR. Here are a few of the highlights from the conversation:

  • The new optical viewfinder will be brighter and clearer than the one found in the Pentax KP; it uses a new high-refraction glass pentaprism first developed back in 2017.
  • It will be compact and offer a new grip for ‘increased comfort.’
  • The camera will have a joystick on the back (for autofocus and more) and use larger buttons for better tactile feedback
  • The shutter release will use the same ‘leaf switch’ mechanism found in the Pentax 645Z and Z-1.
  • The rear LCD display will be ‘extra large’ (no specific size is shared, however).
  • The new sensor will be improved across the board, at lower and higher sensitivities

Shigeru also reveals the camera will come in silver (alongside the standard black version) and have a set of silver lenses to match (a 70–210mm F2.8, 50mm F1.4 and 85mm F1.4). A silver version of the K-1 Mark II will also be released in the near future alongside the silver D FA 21mm lens announced back in May.

Canon introduces RF 600mm and 800mm F11 IS STM lenses, 1.4x and 2x teleconverters

Canon has announced a pair of super-telephoto fixed-aperture lenses: the RF 600mm F11 IS STM and RF 800mm F11 IS STM.

The use of gapless dual-layer diffractive optics and fixed apertures of F11 allowed Canon to reduce the size and length of the lenses compared to their EF equivalents. Canon also says the design of the DO elements also allows for much lower pricing than would otherwise be possible. Both lenses are collapsable, which reduces their stowed length by around 25%. Neither is weather-sealed.

The image stabilization on the lenses reduces shake by five stops on the 600mm and four stops on the 800mm. Canon does not claim any additional image stabilization advantage when using the IBIS systems in the newly launched EOS R5 and R6. Both lenses use stepping motors to drive their focus groups, so focus is unlikely to match the speeds and silence of the company’s lenses using Nano USM motors. When attached to the R5 and R6, AF coverage area is 60% x 40% (W x H).

The RF 1.4x and 2x will give the 600mm F11 and 800mm F11 even more reach

Canon has also introduced a pair of teleconverters alongside the RF lenses released today. The RF 1.4x and 2x will give the 600mm F11 and 800mm F11 even more reach. With the 2x teleconverter attached, the 800mm F11 becomes a 1600mm F22 – and yes, the R5 and R6 can maintain autofocus at that aperture.

The teleconverters are also compatible with the just-announced 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L. Note, however, that the 100-500mm must be set to 300mm or longer before the teleconverter can be attached, so the lens becomes either an effective 420-700mm or a 600-1000mm, depending on which converter you’re using.

The 600mm, 800mm and both converters will be available later this month. The 600mm is priced at $ 699, while the 800mm comes in at $ 899. The 1.4x and 2x converters will sell for $ 499 and $ 599, respectively.

Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6
Both the EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras have the ability to capture the action of a variety of fast-moving subjects with impressive accuracy and speed. When using the mechanical shutter, each can shoot up to 12 fps and up to 20 fps when using the completely silent shutter. Both cameras are the first to be outfitted with Canon’s advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II which utilizes up to approximately100 percent coverage of the AF area and EOS iTR AF X incorporating AF tracking algorithms using deep learning technology and enhanced readout speed of the CMOS sensor and processing speed thanks to the DIGIC X image processor. The 1,053 automatically selected AF Zones are made even more potent by the ability to detect the human eye, face or head as well as the eye, face or body of animals such as dogs, cats and even birds. Adding to the feature set is the 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer, having coordinated control with Optical Image Stabilizer in IS equipped RF lenses. This provides up to 8 stops of shake correction, a feature that many creators have long asked for from Canon. Both the EOS R5 and R6 cameras come with a new LP-E6NH battery with a higher capacity than the previous model.

As the new flagship model in the EOS R series lineup, the EOS R5 camera has features that pack a punch for a variety of users who create both still and video content. It has a powerful 45-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and is driven by the speedy DIGIC X image processor, giving wide dynamic range as well as boasting an ISO range of 100-51,200 that is expandable up to 102,400. The EOS R6 camera is well-equipped with a host of new features to push the limits of creativity for imaging enthusiasts. Battery Accessory
The optional BG-R10 battery grip accessory will be available for both the EOS R5 and EOS R6 full-frame mirrorless cameras. The BG-R10 accommodates up to two batteries and is compatible with the new LP-E6NH, LP-E6N and LP-E6 batteries. The convenient BG-R10 grip accessory can also improve handling for users while capturing portrait photography.

Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM
The Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is a high-performance and versatile super-telephoto zoom lens that will find its way into the bags of many photographers. The compact and lightweight lens features optical image stabilization of up to five stops* of shake correction with three different IS modes, including standard, panning and during exposure only. Two Nano USM motors are at the heart of this lens and provide users with high-speed, smooth and quiet auto focus with a minimum focusing distance of three feet. Additional features of the Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM include:

Canon RF600mm and 800mm F11 IS STM
The Canon RF600mm and RF800mm F11 IS STM lenses are the first fixed focal length super-telephoto RF lenses and are incredibly compact and lightweight. The portability of the new lenses is made even greater due to the ability for the lens barrel to retract and lock in place when the lenses are stowed away and not in use. Diffractive Optics technology helps to reduce the necessary number of lenses and greatly diminish the cost of the lenses, making them affordable for a broader group of photographers. Additional features of the Canon RF600mm and RF800mm F11 IS STM lenses include:

  • Lightweight – the RF600mm weighs approximately 2.05lb and the RF800mm weighs approximately 2.78lb, respectively

Canon RF85mm F2 MACRO IS STM
The third RF85mm lens in the RF lineup, the Canon RF85mm F2 MACRO IS STM is compact and lightweight, featuring a bright f/2 aperture helping to capture images that have exceptional bokeh. The lens features a maximum magnification of 0.5x and a minimum focusing distance of 1.15 feet, providing users with macro-photography capability. Additional features of the Canon RF85mm F2 MACRO IS STM include:

RF Lens Extenders
Lens extenders have long been a practical and useful tool for a variety of photographers. That story continues with the introduction of the Extender RF 1.4x and Extender RF 2x. The new lens extenders inherit the same high image quality, precision AF and reliability, such as being drip and dustproof, of EF lens extenders. When used in combination with the newly-released compatible lenses, the capturing range can be dramatically increased, providing consumers with additional use cases for their existing RF lenses.

Hands-on with new Canon RF 100-500mm, 600mm and 800mm telephoto lenses

Alongside the EOS R5 and R6, Canon has announced a brace of lenses, all in the short to long telephoto range. Filling out the ‘long’ end are one L-series zoom, and two innovative primes. Click through to learn more about the 100-500mm F4-7.1L IS USM and the RF 600mm and 800 F11 IS STM.

100-500mm F4-7.1L IS USM

Let’s start with the more conventional lens of the trio – the 100-500mm F4-7.1L IS USM, which first appeared in mockup form at events earlier this year (remember when we had events?) featuring 20 elements in 14 groups, this is a complex design, which incorporates six UD (Ultra Low-Dispersion) elements and one ‘Super’ UD element. These elements should help control chromatic aberrations.

(Relatively) compact

The 100-500mm is relatively compact when zoomed ‘out’ to 100mm (207.6mm / 8.2 in) but extends (to 297mm / 11.7 in) at 500mm. A torque adjustment allows you to make the zoom movement stiffer or looser as desired, and lock the zoom ring if required.

Canon is at pains to reassure users that despite its telescoping design, this lens is very well-sealed against dust and moisture. At 1370 g (3 lbs), the 100-500mm is far from a lightweight lens, but it’s only a couple of hundred grams heavier than the much faster RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM. The front filter thread is a very reasonable 77mm.

A removable tripod collar allows the lens to be mounted directly onto a tripod, in situations where hand-holding isn’t desirable or practical.

Close focusing performance

Considering its focal length range, the 100-500mm offers good close focusing performance, with a minimum focus distance of 0.9m at the 100mm end of the zoom, and 1.2m at 500mm. This should make it practical for conventional short-tele portraiture. The maximum magnification ratio of 0.33X is achieved at 500mm (full extension at 500mm shown in this image).

Autofocus is handled by dual Nano USM motors that can work independently of one another for fast and silent AF.

5 stops of IS

This is a stabilized lens, rated at 5 stops of correction on an EOS R. When mounted on an R5 or R6, Canon claims that total stabilization with its I.S.-enabled lenses should improve due to both in-body and lens IS systems receiving information from the others’ sensors.

This two-way communication is enabled by the fast protocols developed for the RF mount. Canon quotes as much as an 8 stop benefit with some lenses. Canon claims you can expect 6 EV of correction from the 100-500mm and R5/6 combination, and this is something we’ll be sure to test as soon as we can. There are three IS modes to choose from: standard, panning or active during exposure.

Compatible with RF 1.4X and 2X teleconverters

The 100-500mm is compatible with Canon’s new RF 1.4X and 2X teleconverters, but only at focal lengths of 300mm and longer. A locking mechanism prevents their use at wider focal length positions, where damage might occur to the lens’ rear element.

The RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens is scheduled to be available in September 2020 for an estimated retail price of $ 2,699. The RF Extender 1.4x and 2x are scheduled to be available at the end of this month for an estimated retail price of $ 499.99 and $ 599.99.

Canon RF 600mm F11 IS STM

Alongside the 100-500mm Canon unveiled two very unusual lenses, both of which employ collapsible mechanisms and DO – Diffractive Optics – elements in their designs, to reduce their size and weight. The first is the RF 600mm F11 IS STM. Canon claims that the use of a new material for the gapless dual-layered DO element allows for smaller and more cost-effective designs compared to the EF equivalents.

Compact and lightweight

The 600mm F11 IS STM weighs less than a kilo (930 g / 2.05 lbs), features a perfectly reasonable 82mm filter thread and measures only 200mm (7.9 in) when stowed. Considering its focal length, these figures are impressive. The DO optical technology certainly helps, but the main reason for its unusual compactness is an innovative retractable design.

Retracting design

Retracting / collapsing designs have been around for as long as photographic lenses have existed, and the basic principle (and benefit) has remained the same – extend and lock the mechanism when you need to shoot with the lens, and retract / collapse it when you don’t, for compactness. This isn’t possible with complex multi-element primes (let alone zooms) but for a long tele like the RF 600mm, where most of the glass is clustered together, in a design with a lot of empty space between groups, it becomes an option.

Retracting design

To unlock the 600mm’s extending mechanism, just turn the collar, and pull (or push) to put the lens into either the extended shooting position, or collapsed storage position. When extended, the lens measures 270mm (10.6 in).

Fixed aperture of F11

Another way of keeping this lens small is its fixed aperture of F11. This is the kind of aperture that traditionally, we would have associated with mirror lenses, which were a devil to work with on D/SLRs because of the dim viewfinder image associated with such a small working aperture.

However, on a mirrorless camera with a decent EVF, that’s much less of a concern, especially now that the Dual Pixel CMOS AF systems in Canon’s EOS R-series cameras can autofocus at working apertures down to F22 (which – not coincidentally – allows for these lenses to be used with the new RF teleconverters). Yes, F11 (and remember that’s fixed – you cannot stop down as there is no multi-bladed iris) is still a limiting aperture for exposure, but it’s a much more practical working aperture now than it would have been back in the days of SLRs.

Image stabilization and autofocus

The 600mm F11 is also equipped with an image stabilization system which can deliver up to 5 stops of stabilization. Canon did not claim an increase in performance when paired with the EOS R5 and R6 IBIS systems, and this makes some sense given the limited ability of IBIS systems to effectively stabilize very long focal lengths. Autofocus is handled by an STM motor, of the kind that has become common in Canon’s more enthusiast-centric lenses and those optics intended to be used for video, as well as stills. It’s not as fast – or usually as silent – as Canon’s Nano USM motors, but still quite effective.

Canon RF 800mm F11 IS STM

The RF 800mm F11 IS STM is a very similar lens to the 600mm, but it’s a little bigger, a little heavier and features a little more glass (11 elements in eight groups, as opposed to ten elements in seven groups for the 600mm).

Bigger and heavier (but still compact)

The 800mm is 35% heavier than the 600mm, weighing in at 1260 g (2.77 lbs). At 282mm (11.1 in) when stowed in its collapsed position, it’s about the same length as the 600mm is when extended. When the 800mm is extended to its shooting position, overall length increases to 352mm (13.8 in). That’s longer than a mirror lens would be, but very compact for a conventional 800mm.

Larger filter ring, longer minimum focus

The general ‘upsizing’ of the 800mm compared to the 600mm extends to the filter ring, which is a less traditional (and less convenient) 95mm. The IS system in the 800mm is only rated to four stops, too, compared to five in the 600mm (rated as per CIPA, measured on an EOS R body). The minimum focus distance is longer, too, at 6m compared to 4.5m.

All of this probably makes the 600mm slightly more practical for most photographers, but there’s no doubt that 800mm can itch some places that 600mm can’t quite scratch. We suspect that both lenses will be a hit with fans of bird photography.

The RF600mm F11 IS STM and RF800mm F11 IS STM lenses are scheduled to be available at the end of July 2020 for an estimated retail price of $ 699.99 and $ 899.99, respectively.

Canon to Announce Two Cameras, 5 RF Lenses on July 9

For months, we’ve waited for the Canon EOS R5 and R6.

And for months, it’s felt like neither camera would ever actually appear.

But now we have a date to report:

July 9th.

That’s the when the EOS R5 and EOS R6 will officially launch.

While the full details of the two cameras have yet to be revealed, we do know quite a lot thanks to leaks, as well as Canon’s EOS R5 teaser.

So here’s what we can confidently say about the EOS R5:

  • 8K video
  • 20 fps with the electronic shutter
  • 12 fps with the mechanical shutter
  • IBIS
  • Dual card slots

Canon has stayed surprisingly quiet regarding the megapixel count, only revealing that “the EOS R5 is set to raise the bar in high level still and video capture empowered by [a] new CMOS sensor and the new DIGIC processor.”

But given the 8K video resolution, you can expect at least 35 MP or so, and previous rumors have offered a plausible figure of around 45 MP.

Note that a 45 MP full-frame sensor at the heart of the EOS R5 would put this camera on the map in essentially every way; the fast continuous shooting, the 8K video, the dual card slots, the IBIS, plus a 45 MP sensor will make this a professional body through-and-through.

Canon EOS R5

That said, the EOS R6 is also shaping up to be a powerful camera in its own right.

And while Canon has confirmed nothing regarding the R6, the ever-reliable Canon Rumors has offered a set of likely specs:

  • 20 MP full-frame sensor
  • 20 fps with the electronic shutter
  • 12 fps with the mechanical shutter
  • 4K/60p (oversampled from 5K)
  • IBIS
  • Dual card slots
  • A 5M-dot EVF
  • The same AF system as the EOS R5

Assuming these rumors turn out to be true, then the EOS R6 will be positioned a step above both the Canon EOS R and RP, Canon’s two current full-frame mirrorless bodies. The one exception is in resolution, where the EOS R6 falls short (the EOS RP packs a 26 MP sensor, and the EOS R reaches just over 30 MP). But while it’s possible that the EOS R6 will turn out to have a sensor size in the 24-26 MP range, we may be looking at a camera designed for low-light shooting, one that sacrifices pixel count for better high-ISO performance.

Unfortunately, it may be some time before we’re able to do any hands-on comparisons. According to Canon Rumors, the EOS R6 won’t ship until August, with the EOS R5 shipping around a month later (thanks to COVID-related delays).

Also note that the July 9th announcement won’t just cover these two cameras; we’ll also see the release of a number of exciting RF lenses, including:

  • A 50mm f/1.8 (a nifty fifty!)
  • A 70-200mm f/4L IS lens
  • An 85mm f/2 macro lens
  • A 100-500mm f/4-7.1 IS super-telephoto zoom
  • A 600mm f/11 DO IS lens
  • An 800mm f/11 DO IS lens
  • A 1.4x teleconverter
  • A 2x teleconverter

Personally, I’m most interested to see the 50mm f/1.8, which should offer an affordable way to break into Canon’s mirrorless lineup. But the macro lens (with an f/2 aperture!) and the 100-500mm super-telephoto lens should be exciting, as well.

Cine versions of Laowa ultra-wide lenses released for three sensor formats

Venus Optics has announced three additions to its cine range of lenses that each gives users an angle of view equivalent to a 15mm lens on a full-frame camera. The lenses released are for MFT, APS-C and full-frame sensor cameras and come with clickless apertures and 0.8 mod pitch gears for focusing and iris control.

The lenses are the Laowa 7.5mm T2.1 Cine for Micro Four Thirds cameras, the Laowa 9mm T2.9 for APS-C and Super35 sensors and the Laowa 15mm T2.1 for Sony full-frame models. The 9mm and 15mm lenses have the company’s Zero-D designation meaning there is minimal barrel distortion, and all have exceptional close focus abilities – 12cm/4.7in from the sensor for the 7.5mm and 9mm, and 15cm/5.8in for the 15mm lens.

Each of the lenses is an adapted version of an existing stills lens but built with a new housing that has no lens hood, a larger filter thread and slightly longer focus rotation for the 15mm – as well as the geared rings, clickless apertures and T-stop markings.

The lenses are on sale now and come with their own mini Pelican hard case. The 9mm is available in mounts for Fujifilm X, Sony E and MFT, while the 7.5mm is MFT-only and the 15mm is Sony E-only, though the company says versions of the 15mm for Nikon Z, Canon R and L mounts will be coming later this year. The 7.5mm T2.1 and 9mm T2.9 cost $ 599 and the 15mm T2.1 is $ 1,199. For more information see the Laowa website.

Venus Optics unveiled 3 new Ultra Wide cine lenses for Micro Four Thirds, Super 35 and Full frame cinema cameras

Anhui China, Jun 19, 2020 – Venus Optics, the camera lenses manufacturer specialize in making unique camera lenses, unveiled three new ultra-wide cine lenses for cameras with different sensor sizes. They are the Laowa 7.5mm T2.1 Cine for Micro Four Thirds cameras, Laowa 9mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine for Super35 cameras and the Laowa 15mm T2.1 Zero-D Cine Lens for large format (full frame) cameras. All three lenses feature the same optical system as the their popular photography version and offer premium optical performance. Ultra-wide FoV & fast aperture
All three Laowa cine lenses feature an ultra-wide angle of view and fast aperture. The Laowa 7.5mm T2.1 feature a 110° FoV on MFT while the 9mm T2.9 features a 113° on Super35 sensors. The 15mm T2.1 instead features a 110° FoV on cameras with full frame sensors. The fast maximum t-stop is well suited for filming under low light condition. It also allows filmmakers to have more flexibility in depth of field control.

Close-to-zero distortion
Both the 9mm and 15mm feature the distinguishing Laowa close-to-zero distortion (Zero-D) design where the optical distortion at infinity distance has been compressed to the minimal. This is extremely important for motion picture recording when shooting indoor, architecture or footage with straight lines included. This also saves tremendous amount of time in distortion correction in post processing.

Compact & lightweight
All three wide angle prime lenses are extremely compact and lightweight. Both 7.5mm and 9mm weigh close to 0.5 lbs (226g). The 15mm is a little bit heavier due to the larger coverage but Venus Optics still manage to compress it to around 1.2 lbs (540g). On the contrary to the huge and heavy wide angle lenses in the market, the new Laowa cine lenses are extremely handy for run-and-gun productions, shooting with gimbals, in-car shots, indoor scene, etc.

Close Focusing Distance
All three Laowa cine lenses possess an extremely close focusing distance. This provides a great deal of flexibility for directors to compose shots at any distance. Filmmakers can also take advantage of this close focusing to create some wide angle shots with shallower depth of field. Both the Laowa 7.5mm and 9mm can focus as close as 4.7” (12cm) from sensor to subject while the 15mm can focus up to 5.9” (15cm).

Industry standard cinema lens housing
The major difference between the new cinema version and the still version is the improved housing. The new cinema lens housing have been designed with details to facilitate filmmakers to shoot with ease. Both the aperture and focus rings have been built with industry standard 0.8 mod pitch gears for pairing up with follow-focus motors. The aperture ring is now click-less for smooth iris control. Every one of Laowa cine lenses comes with a filter thread for filmmakers to use screw-in filters and mini matte-boxes. Entire lens body is made by premium grade aluminum and build for usage in extreme environment.

Hassel-free transportation
An authentic hard case made by Pelican will be included with the lens to allow filmmakers to travel around for shooting with ease.

A variety of Current & Future mount options
The Laowa 7.5mm T2.1 Cine is available in Micro Four Thirds mount and it is a perfect companion to cameras like Blackmagic Pocket 4K, Panasonic GH5 and Z-Cam E2

The 9mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine is available in Fuji X, Sony E mount and Micro Four Thirds mount. The Micro Four Thirds mount can cover the same cameras as 7.5mm and serve as an not-as-wide alternative to MFT users. The Fuji X mount is extremely popular among XT-4 or XH-1 shooters. The Sony E mount works really well with Sony cameras with Super35 sensors including FS5, FS7, A6500 series, etc.

The 15mm T2.1 Zero-D Cine is designed for large format sensor with Sony FE mount available. It is best suited with Sony full frame cameras like Sony A7 series and FX9.

New Nikon Z, Canon RF and Leica L mount will be introduced later this year and they will certain be interesting wide angle options for cameras like RED Komodo, Canon R5, Nikon Z6/Z7, Sigma FP, Panasonic S1H and more to come.

Together with the Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine released earlier for EF and PL cinema cameras, Venus Optics currently offer four wide angle cine lenses for cinema cameras with different sensor sizes.
