Nikon 18-200 VR Lens Review

16 Oct

Just a quick review of the Nikon 18-200 VR lens. My copy is the older version, but it’s basically the same as the newly released one. It’s a pretty decent lens, but too slow and not as sharp for professional use. A great travel lens and good for some landscape shooting. Autofocus is lightning fast though. We’re incredibly pleased to announce the imminent return of lens reviews to dpreview thanks to a joint venture with DXO Labs, involving the establishment of a dedicated DxO lens and camera testing facility in Seattle, and the incorporation of DxO test data into dpreview.com’s class-leading lens reviews. We’re currently ironing out the last few bugs in the system, and hope to publish the first review later this week. More after the link…

14 August, 2012 – Tokina 300mm Mirror Lens for MFT – A Hands-On Review

25 Aug

Mirror lenses have been around since the 1950’s. Some are better than others, but they never are really up to the quality of a good prime of comparable focal length, or even a decent zoom.

But their small size and comparative low cost keep them popular among some photographers, and their unique "drawing" ability appeals to some.

Lens maker Tokina had just released a 300mm F6.3 Macro Mirror lens for Micro Four Thirds, and I have just field tested this new lens on my Olympus OM-D E-M5. My review is now online.

Sony NEX-VG10E Handycam Interchangeable Lens Digital HD Camcorder Unboxing & Review

21 Aug

Sony’s NEX-VG10 provides the options previously reserved for professional videographers to consumers. It is equipped with the same ExmorTM APS HD CMOS sensor used in Sony’s “NEX-5” and “NEX-3” digital cameras which is approximately 19.5 times bigger than what you would find in conventional camcorders. It has a powerful BIONZTM processor allowing photographers the ability to capture full 1920×1080/60i high definition video at up to 24Mbps for true cinematic Blu-ray quality. And most of you must ask that how much does it cost? I bought the Cam itself 00, the Video Light 0 & I also got a 16GB Memory Stick Pro Duo Mark 2 for 0 that records for 2 hours. Here’s the link of the Official video of the NEX-VG10 by Sony www.youtube.com

Sheffield Timelapses 2012 — 1080p This was shot over the course of the 2011/2012 academic year, with many hours sat in the good (and bad) weather. I’ve had to cut this project short as the weather hasn’t allowed me to film all the timelapses I wanted and the end of year stress with exams has meant I had to cut down the editing. Overall there were 8371 photos taken, with just over 11.6 hours filming. Shot from 22 locations in and around Sheffield. The locations are (in order): -Crookes Cemetery (Crematorium) -Ladybower Reservoir -West Street -Sheffield Train Station -Ponds Forge -Ladybower Reservoir -Crookes Cemetery -Parkwood Springs -Derwent Dam -Crookes Park (North) -St George’s Church -Sheffield City Hall -Redmires Reservoir -Crookes Cemetery (North) -Stanage Edge (North) -Stanage Edge (South) -Rivelin River Weir (1) -Rivelin River Weir (2) -Stanage Edge (North) -Crookes Clouds -Brook Hill Roundabout (University Square) -Western Park Camera — Nikon D60 Software — DIYPhotoBits Camera Contoller 5.1, After Effects CS5 Song — Cherry, Ratatat Hopefully I’ll be releasing more timelapse videos in the future, so keep your eyes peeled! Also, if you’ve any questions/comments feel free to let me know! Watch in full 1080p HD!

Fast, Light, Sharp and Cheap – The Canon 50mm f/1.8 EF II Lens

02 Aug

www.robnunnphoto.com The EF 50mm f belongs in the camera bag of every Canon photographer – it’s Canon’s cheapest lens, yet this great little prime offers sharp images, great low-light capability and fantastic selective focus options. The 50mm is more like the 35mm equivalent of an 80mm on a crop sensor camera, it’s slightly telephoto, so you’ll find yourself moving back a little if you’re into landscapes – but it’s a great portrait focal length. Build quality isn’t the best – but what do you expect for £100? Get one, stick it on your camera and have some fun. Cheers, Rob. Oh, and did I mention it’s cheap? 😉
