Drobo launches Mini with 8TB pre-loaded

Digital storage company Connected Data has introduced a version of its Drobo Mini that will come kitted with 8TB worth of hard drives. Small enough to be portable and used by photographers and videographers on location, the Drobo Mini 8TB Bundle will be packaged with four Samsung Spinpoint M9T 2TB drives for the four 2.5-inch memory bays of the device. Read more

Epson launches Perfection V850 and V800 multi-format film scanners

Epson has announced a pair of high-end flatbed scanners that are capable of digitizing film in sizes of up to 10x8in. Replacing the Epson Perfection V750 and V700, which were introduced in February 2006, the Epson Perfection V850 and V800 will feature the same specification as the previous models, but will benefit from faster start-up and lower power consumption. Read more

Epson launches A3+ SC-P600 printer with ‘industry’s highest black density’

Epson has announced a new A3+ desktop inkjet printer aimed at the professional and semi-professional photographer that it claims is capable of producing a maximum black density of 2.8. According to Epson this beats all competitors’ A3+ machines that use 6 or more inks. The SureColor SC-P600 is part of Epson’s plan to introduce ten new professional printers to the market under the ‘Sure’ brand by 2016, and is the first SureColor model to be aimed at the photo market. Western Digital launches My Passport Wireless hard drive with built-in SD card reader

Western Digital has launched a new wireless-enabled hard drive that uniquely features a built-in SD card reader. The My Passport Wireless might be coming to the market after other wireless options like the LaCie Fuel drive, but it’s the inclusion of the SD card reader that makes this product of particular interest to photographers. Read more

Zeiss launches Loxia full frame lenses for Sony E-mount

German optical manufacturer Zeiss has announced a new range of lenses called Loxia, designed for full frame cameras using the Sony E mount – essentially the Sony Alpha 7 series at the moment. The Loxia 2/35 and Loxia 2/50 are based on the company’s existing 35mm f/2 Biogon and 50mm f/2 Planar lenses from the ZM range. Read more

Leica launches 100mm F2 Summicron for medium format S system

German camera brand Leica is set to launch a new portrait lens for its professional S system that features a super-fast maximum aperture of F2. The Summicron-S 100mm F2 ASPH will sit between the company’s existing Summarit-S 70mm F2.5 ASPH and the APO-Macro-Summarit-S 120mm F2.5, both of which are also popular choices for portrait photographers using the S cameras. Metabones launches Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart Adapter and Speed Booster

Lens adapter manufacturer Metabones has launched a pair of long-awaited Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds lens adapters. The first adapter is the Smart Mount version which allows electronic control of the aperture in a Canon lens from a Micro Four Thirds camera, as well as correct recording of EXIF information and activation of Image Stabilization where present. Also debuting is an EF to Micro Four Thirds Speed Booster. Read more

Flickr launches image marketplace initiative

Flickr has announced that it is expanding its photo licensing opportunities for users. Alongside its partnership with Getty Images, Flickr will now allow users to opt in to an ‘image curation’ initiative called Marketplace. Hasselblad launches 50MP CFV-50c back for legacy V system

Hasselblad has launched a new digital back for its V System camera bodies that it claims brings modern digital image quality to users of vintage film-era Hasselblad camera bodies. The Hasselblad CFV-50c back features a 43.8 x 32.9mm CMOS sensor that outputs images at a resolution of up to 8272 x 6200 pixels, and operates within an ISO range of 100-6400.
