Photoshop CC 2015.0.1 update addresses healing tool issue

Nikon D750 service advisory warns of shutter issue

Nikon has issued a service advisory regarding the D750, specifically targeting units made in October and November 2014. An issue with the shutter in these units could result in shading in a portion of images taken with the camera. Nikon will examine and replace the shutter on affected models free of charge to correct the problem. Read more

Ricoh addresses ‘power off’ issue on some Pentax K-3 II cameras

Ricoh is addressing an anomaly found on a small group of its Pentax K-3 II digital SLRs in which the camera will not turn off, even when the power lever is in the ‘off’ position. Ricoh will service any K-3 II within a specific range of serial numbers at no charge, regardless of whether the camera is having the issue. LensRentals reports Canon EOS Rebel T6s and T6i sensor issue

LensRentals received its first Canon EOS Rebel T6s/760D and T6i/750D units and has identified a sensor problem with a number of those cameras. Out of about 10 copies of each model, 6 contained sensors with noticeable defects in their sensor stacks. These layers of glass on top of the sensor contain a pattern of dust-like spots or particles that are visible when studied under angled light. Read more

Sigma service notice advises of Canon 750D and 760D Live View issue

Sigma has issued a service notice advising that some of its Canon mount interchangeable lenses cannot be used with Live Mode on the Canon EOS Rebel T6s (760D) and the Canon EOS Rebel T6i (750D). Lens owners will receive a free firmware update to fix the problem, though the company has not provided a timeframe for when the update is expected. Both current and discontinued lens models are affected by this issue. Read more

Nikon acknowledges ‘issue’ with flare in some D750 bodies

Nikon has released a statement to reassure users of the D750 that it is ‘working on measures to address’ an issue some models have with unusual flare patterns that can occur when bright light sources are just outside the frame. Although the effect seems to occur only in certain units, and comes about only when the light source is at a particular angle, it appears as flare at the top of the image with a darker band closer to the top of the frame. Learn more

Leica M9 users report sensor corrosion issue

A growing number of Leica users are reporting white spots appearing on images taken with M9, M9-P, M Monochrom and M-E cameras. The common element in all of these models is their 18MP full frame Kodak CCD sensor which is protected by a piece of Schott S8612 glass. Read more

Nikon to offer D600 shutter replacement to address ‘dust’ issue

Nikon has issued a worldwide technical service bulletin regarding ‘dust’ issues on its D600 DSLRs. Nikon says that it has evaluated user reports and has ‘determined’ that spots on the sensor are caused by dust particles which are visible in images taken in certain situations. The company will be offering all D600 owners a full inspection, cleaning, and replacement of the shutter mechanism in their cameras, free of charge and regardless of warrantee status.  Read more and find out how to get your camera serviced.

French newspaper publishes issue with no photos

At a time when the journalism industry is struggling to stay in business, photojournalists have been hit especially hard. Earlier this year, the Chicago Sun-Times laid-off its entire staff in favor of giving reporters iPhones. The French newspaper Libération showed its support for photographers by publishing its November 14th issue with all the images removed. See the spread

Nikon issues service advisory on D600’s dust issue

Nikon has released a service advisory for its D600 digital SLR. Based on user complaints, it addresses the widely-reported issue of dust and dirt accumulation on the camera’s sensor. In the advisory, Nikon has belatedly acknowledged that at the point where dust becomes visible in images from the D600, ‘removal may be difficult using normal measures’ and advises customers who have exhausted conventional cleaning options to ‘consult your nearest Nikon service center’, whose technicians will ‘examine the camera thoroughly, and service it as needed.’ Click through for more details, and links to the service advisory.
