At its I/O developers conference a couple of days ago Google introduced various updates to its Google+ social networking platform, many of which will be of interest to photographers. As well as changes to layout, images can be ‘auto-enhanced’, made into panoramas and animations, and the system can also select the best facial expressions in group shots. We’ve just posted our 20-page review of the Nikon D5200. Nikon’s ‘advanced beginner’ APS-C DSLR offers several features that should also appeal to enthusiasts, such as a 24MP CMOS sensor, a 39-point AF system inherited from the D7000 and an Auto ISO system linked to the focal length of the lens. Add an articulated rear LCD and the ability to output uncompressed video and you’ve got the makings of a very  promising camera. Does the D5200 live up to its potential in real-world use? Click through to read our in-depth review.

We’ve just published our 25-page, in-depth review of the Nikon D7100. Sitting atop Nikon’s APS-C DSLR lineup, the D7100 offers a 24MP CMOS sensor sans AA filter and a 51-point AF system that borrows heavily from the D4. In terms of ergonomics and handling the D7100 will feel familiar to D7000 users looking to upgrade, but it also inherits recent changes we’ve seen from Nikon in the D600 and D800 models. Is the D7100 a compelling option for enthusiasts tempted by the recent wave of affordable full frame DSLRs? Click through to find out.

In-Depth: The New Fujifilm X100s

22 Mar

Those of you who follow on other channels—Flickr, Twitter, G Plus—know I have been getting acquainted with the new Fuji X100s for the past few weeks. Seen above, I have purposely gaffed mine up and trashed the shade to make it look not worth stealing (and otherwise less noticeable) when I travel with it.

Reader's Digest Version: It's a remarkable, sync-at-any-speed camera with a no-apologies 16mp chip. I'll probably make more pictures with this camera over the next year than all of my other cameras combined.

Why, below.

Just Posted: Our in-depth review of the Canon EOS 6D. Announced last autumn but only recently available in stores, the 20MP EOS 6D is Canon’s newest full-frame camera, offering a cut-down feature set compared to its big brother the 5D Mark III, but at a more affordable price. The 6D has some unique tricks up its sleeve though, including built-in Wi-Fi and GPS, as well as a super-sensitive central AF point capable of focussing in extremely low light. Is the 6D the budget-friendly full-frame DSLR that Canon enthusiasts have been waiting for? Click through to read our full 25-page review.

We’ve just published our 23-page, in-depth review of the Nikon D600. Aimed at enthusiasts, the Nikon D600 offers a 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor and a 39-point AF system adapted from the D7000. In many other respects, it owes a lot to its considerably more expensive cousin, the 36MP D800. When we previewed the D600 we were impressed by its image quality and how many features it offers for the money. So how does it fare when put through our rigorous studio and real-world testing? We’ve just posted our in-depth, 20-page review of the Nikon D3200 entry-level DSLR. The D3200 builds on the the company’s line of simple, accessible beginners’ DSLRs by adding a higher-resolution screen, boosting its continuous shooting rate and adding details such as a microphone jack and infrared remote sockets. And then, of course, there’s the 24MP CMOS sensor, making it by far the highest pixel-count camera in its class. Does its impressive specification translate into class-leading performance? Read our review to find out.
