Logitech’s new Craft keyboard includes a dial for photo and video editors

06 Sep

Computer accessory maker Logitech has introduced a new keyboard designed specifically for ‘creators.’ It’s called the Craft keyboard, and it features a dial that will hopefully make life a little easier for stills and video editors.

The Crown dial on the Craft keyboard offers three-way touch, tap and turn functions that can tune-in to the tools of editing applications and allow mouse-free adjustments and selections. The company suggests using the Craft keyboard with Adobe’s Photoshop, for example, so the dial can be used to adjust brush sizes, turn saturation up or down, or to scroll through tool settings quickly and with greater accuracy.

But you’re not limited to Photoshop. A software package called Logitech Options will allow custom profiles to be installed that are specifically designed for individual applications, and which extends the range of controls that can be accessed. The Crown can also be used with Microsoft Office applications, and you can use it to take control of standard PC functions such as screen navigation as well.

The Logitech Craft is expected to go on sale in October priced $ 200/£170. For more information, check out the video below and visit the Logitech website.

Logitech CRAFT Advanced Keyboard with Creative Input Dial Sets New Standard for Desktop Control

Flagship Keyboard Improves Creativity and Productivity

“The creative input dial gives you instant access to the functions you need, the moment you need them, allowing you to increase your productivity by simply touching the dial. CRAFT puts you in your creative element – every time you sit at the desk.”

Today Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) announced CRAFT, an advanced keyboard with a creative input dial, setting a new standard for computer keyboards. CRAFT looks and feels better than anything you have typed on and offers a whole new way to immediately access context-specific computing tools with a smart aluminum dial. For example, with a touch, tap or turn you can adjust image brightness, contrast and saturation in Adobe Photoshop, or create and adjust charts in Microsoft Excel®. The creative input dial gives you the ultimate control and input at your desk for precision, efficiency and uninterrupted creative flow.

“Our new flagship Logitech CRAFT keyboard is for all creators who spend a lot of time designing and creating – who want to work with greater precision and feel connected to their work,” said Art O’Gnimh, global head of keyboards at Logitech. “The creative input dial gives you instant access to the functions you need, the moment you need them, allowing you to increase your productivity by simply touching the dial. CRAFT puts you in your creative element – every time you sit at the desk.”

The touch-sensitive aluminum creative input dial, called the Crown, recognizes the apps you are using and gives instant access to the tools you need. With a slight touch of the Crown you can instantly access context-specific functions — like brush size, brightness, chart type, font size — tap to change the function and turn to change the selected function’s value. Installing custom profiles in Logitech Options™ Software maximizes the creative process when working with Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Adobe InDesign CC and Microsoft PowerPoint®, Excel® and Word® (Microsoft functionalities work on PC only at this time). The Crown brings comfort, immediacy and convenience to your creative process and allows for increased two-handed interactions. You can also have access to global controls – giving you the ability to change desktops, navigate between apps, or adjust volume – and assign one additional Crown function in each of your favorite apps.

CRAFT also features smart illumination with backlighting that detects your hands and adjusts lighting automatically depending on the room conditions. The keys are crafted for comfort, in a full-size familiar layout, with each individual key engineered for stability and precision. CRAFT looks great alongside other premium desktop accessories by Logitech, such as the Logitech MX Sound, Logitech Spotlight Presentation Remote and Logitech MX Master 2S.

Additionally with the touch of an Easy-Switch™ button, you can easily switch between – and type on – any three connected devices, whether you are using a Windows® PC or Mac®. Select from either a Logitech Unifying™ USB or Bluetooth® Low Energy technology to connect to your computer.

The Logitech CRAFT Advanced Keyboard is expected to be available in October 2017 at Logitech.com and select retail stores for a suggested retail price of $ 199.99. For more information, please visit Logitech.com, our blog or connect with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Udee universal backpack includes camera compartment, external USB charging and more

17 Jan

A versatile photography backpack called Udee is seeking funding on Kickstarter, offering a design that’s meant to cover many different circumstances and needs. The backpack boasts 19 features, including a dedicated ‘photography bag,’ an external USB charging port, an integrated LED safety light, integrated earphone port, and more. With 39 days to go, the campaign is looking to hit a $ 20,000 funding goal to bring the backpack to production.

Udee is designed for everything from travel to regular daily use, covering most of the bases anyone could need via a combination of security, convenience and comfort features. As far as comfort is concerned, Udee has a weight reduction design that includes an X-shaped back support element combined with an S-shaped belt, memory sponge material and air permeability.

This is complemented by an anti-theft security feature in the form of a coded lock which, when used with a steel cable, can lock the bag in place and keep thieves out. Convenience is also given a strong focus, and includes quick- access zones, a 3M reflective strip, an earphone port for listening to music through headphones connected to an item inside the bag, and an external USB port for charging a phone using a battery stored within the bag.

Udee’s design allows specific categories of items to be stored separately from others. A photography bag section has cushioned spaces for a camera and lenses, for example, while there’s also a pocket for a laptop, sleeves for notebooks or similar items, small pockets, a glass chamber for breakable items, and even a compartment that can be used as a portable cooler. Overall, the bag has a 25 liter capacity.

Meltpartners, the entity behind Udee, is seeking funding for the bag on Kickstarter, where there’s a stated $ 20,000 funding goal. Backers are offered an early bird Udee basic backpack in exchange for a minimum $ 99 pledge, though other more substantial pledge rewards are also listed.

Next Version of Adobe Photoshop to Be Branded Photoshop CC, Includes Awesome New Motion Blur Sharpening Tool

07 May

Today Adobe announced a new branding of their flagship Photoshop product to be released later this year, Photoshop CC. The new version will only be available via a monthly subscription to Adobe’s Creative Cloud and will not be sold as a traditional boxed application that consumers can purchase.

Probably the most anticipated new feature in the next iteration of Photoshop is a revolutionary new image sharpening tool that focuses on fixing camera shake issues.

The new tool analyzes images that are out of focus due to the slight movement or motion that takes place while a shutter is open. There are lots of reasons why photographers may find camera shake in their images. Many images shot slower than about 125th of a second are susceptible to camera shake unless you’re on a tripod or have a very steady hand. Telephoto shots, especially can be problematic.

With the new version of Photoshop CC, Adobe uses an algorithm to try and detect which direction the camera was moving that produced the shake. They then try to account for the movement back into the direction of a steady image without camera shake. This new sharpening tool won’t help you with other types of focal blur issues, like lens position, but it does address a fairly common issue dealt with by photographers.

Adobe had previously offered a sneak peak of this new technology in a video that they posted to Youtube. Watch the video and you’ll be impressed.

What makes this interesting to me is that there are a lot of old images that I’ve taken in the past that now will suddenly become salvageable.

This new technology advancement should be yet another reminder to photographers why they should save ALL of their images, even the bad ones that they don’t think they can use. With technology advancements in image processing, I’m finding more and more images that I’d previously dismissed due to problems. Whether previous Adobe noise reduction tech or newer tech like this new sharpening tool, it pays to save all of your images no matter what. Storage is cheap and you never know when you may need that image that you never knew you needed at the time. Even years after you are dead, those images may be important to someone, somewhere for some reason.

While the camera shake feature is the sizzle of the new Photoshop upgrade, there are several other enhancements they have made to the program as well including, smart Sharpen (new technology promising more realistic sharpening without halos or noise) and new upsampling tech (this helps make your photos look better when you make them larger than you processed them).

The biggest news though is Adobe’s moving Photoshop 100% into the Cloud and 100% by subscription. You’ll still be able to purchase Photoshop CS for the time being, but it won’t have the new features available in CC.

Pricing varies by type of customer but starts at $ 49.99 a month per person for individuals. Existing Creative Suite customers, students, and teachers will get a discount to $ 29.99 a month. Creative Cloud has a lot more applications than just Photoshop and also includes Lightroom and a whole suite of other Adobe Creative applications. It also includes integration with Behance, a portfolio site for creatives that Adobe recently purchased.
