The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville or Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla is a museum in Seville, Spain, a collection of mainly Spanish visual arts from medieval period to the early 20th century, including a choice selection of works from the so-called Golden Age of Sevillian painting during the 17th century, such as Murillo, Zurbarán, Francisco de Herrera the younger, and Valdés Leal.
The museum was founded in 1839, after the desamortizacion or shuttering of religious monasteries and convents, collecting works from across the city and region. Originally, the site held the convent of the Order of the Merced Calzada de la Asunción, founded by St. Peter Nolasco during the reign of King Ferdinand III of Castile. Extensive remodeling in the early 17th century was led by the architect Juan de Oviedo y de la Bandera.

Asa Griggs Candler, founder of the Coca-Cola Company, was also a real estate developer and banker and famous for his philanthropy. Born in 1851 as one of eleven children of a prosperous merchant and planter, Candler was brought up with strong religious beliefs and a firm work ethic.
Candler became a successful manufacturer of patent medicines, and in 1888 he bought the Coca-Cola production rights from founder John Pemberton. He immediately realized the business potential of Coca-Cola and acquired complete ownership of the Coca-Cola business for ,300 by 1891. He changed the formula several times to improve taste, improve shelf life and insure he had a unique product, because several people had known Pemperton’s original formula. Within four years, Candler’s merchandising flair helped expand consumption of Coca-Cola to every corner of the United States. Using innovative advertising and distribution methods, Candler marketed this new product no longer as a medecine but as a soft drink. In 1908 the Coca-Cola script had been spread across 2.5 million square feet of walls and 10,000 windows displayed Coca-Cola signs.

  • Fixing Images with Contrast Masks in Photoshop

    contrast_masking.opener.jpg

Many of the fixes we commonly apply to images come from darkroom processes. Contrast masking is one of those fixes and it can be used to fix an image which is under or over exposed.

Contrast masking is a relatively simple process and it can work wonders with your images. I like it because it generally doesn’t require you to make selections and there is a lot to like about fixes that don’t involve selections.

Here’s how to use Contrast Masking to fix an under exposed image:

Open your image and duplicate the background layer. Target this duplicate layer in the Layers palette.

    contrast_masking_1.jpg

Desaturate this layer by choosing Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. Right now the default convert to black and white is just fine.

    contrast_masking_2.jpg

Alter the blend mode of this layer to Overlay.

    contrast_masking_3.jpg

To invert this black and white layer choose Image > Adjustments > Invert – this gives a negative of the image.

Adjust the layer opacity to suit.

    contrast_masking_4.jpg

Convert the top layer to a Smart Object by choosing Filter > Convert for Smart Filters.

    contrast_masking_5.jpg

Now blur this layer by choosing Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Adjust the Radius to adds some sharpening back to the image. Check the preview to get the best result for the image.

    One Shot

    About the One Shot Project
Visual Codec published a monthly online magazine from February 2006 to February 2007. Its core focus was in-depth coverage of the vibrant regional contemporary visual arts scene showcased by three pivotal Pacific Coast cities: Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia.??In conjunction with the magazine, Visual Codec spearheaded One Shot, a book project intended to showcase both emerging and established regional visual arts talent drawn from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.??One Shot features work by 100 regional artists selected in a blind jury process. While the works presented in One Shot are by no means the first or last word on the enormous body of visual artwork currently being produced in the region, they do, perhaps, provide one conceptually compelling avenue of approach.??Each artist/team was allowed to submit only one work of art, and, while up for review by the jury, each entry was presented with only the medium it was created in, the title of the work, and the general knowledge that it was created somewhere in the region. No artist names, gallery affiliations, cities, resumes, or artistic statements were presented to the jury.
