Leica and Huawei announce partnership to ‘reinvent smartphone photography’

We’ve seen established members of the optical industry partner with smartphone makers before – Nokia high-end phones used to come with Carl Zeiss branded lenses, and Schneider Kreuznach optics have been used in various models from Chinese manufacturer Oppo. Now it seems we could soon see Leica-branded lenses and other imaging technology in Huawei smartphones. Read more

Huawei demonstrates ultra-fast charging battery technology

While processing power and camera quality in smartphones have been improving at a fast pace in recent years, battery life and charging times have only made comparatively small steps forward and remain a major bottleneck in smartphone performance. Chinese manufacturer Huawei has presented some potential battery tech advancements: two prototype removable lithium-ion batteries that can be fully recharged in only a few minutes. Huawei Honor 6 Plus offers three 8MP cameras

Huawei has announced the Honor 6 Plus with not one, not two, but three 8MP cameras. One serves as a selfie-capture unit at the front while the other two are lined up side-by-side on the rear of the device. As on the HTC One M8 the dual lens setup allows for refocusing of already captured images. Read more

Huawei announces octa-core Honor 6 with 13MP camera

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has announced the Honor 6, a high-end model that is squarely aimed at the the competition’s flagship devices such as the Apple iPhone 5s and Samsung Galaxy S5. Though not necessarily groundbreaking, the camera specs are decent with a 13MP 1/3-inch BSI CMOS sensor that we’ve also seen on the OnePlus One. The lens offers a fast F2.0 aperture but there is no talk of an optical image stabilization system. Huawei launches ultra slim Ascend P7 with 8MP front camera

The Chinese technology company Huawei has launched its latest flagship Android smartphone, the Ascend P7. At 6.4mm the new model is just a touch thicker than its predecessor, the Ascend P6, but it’s still one of the thinnest devices on the market. The Ascend P7 doesn’t come with 4K video recording but the front camera offers unusually high resolution at 8MP. Learn more

Hands-on with smartphones from Sony, ZTE and Huawei at CES 2013

CES provided a chance for us to get our hands on to of the latest smartphones. Interestingly, Sony’s Xperia Z, ZTE’s Grand S and the Huawei Ascend D2 are all built around 5″, 1920 x 1080 pixel screens and feature 13MP cameras. All run Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and yet, despite the spec similarities, there are still differences – in the user experience as well as the processors used. We had the opportunity to use both phones, to see how they behave – find out what we thought.
