Sony has announced the Cyber-shot RX10 II, offering a 1″ type stacked 20MP CMOS sensor, 4K video recording (up to 29 minutes) and improved readout speed thanks to a new DRAM chip. The body design and lens specs remain in line with the RX10, including a Zeiss-branded 24-200mm equivalent F2.8 lens. Read more

Sony announces Cyber-shot DSC-WX500 and EVF-equipped DSC-HX90V compact superzooms
Sony has announced the Cyber-shot DSC-HX90V and DSC-WX500, two travel zooms which the company claims are the world’s smallest. Both cameras boast an 18.2MP BSI-CMOS sensor plus a 30x, 24-720mm equiv. lens with optical image stabilization, 3″ LCD that tilts upward, a control ring around the lens, 1080/60p video using the XAVC S codec, and Wi-Fi with NFC. The HX90V adds a pop-up OLED viewfinder similar to the one in the RX100 III, as well as built-in GPS. Read more

Sony adds XAVC S support to Cyber-shot DSC-RX10
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 is a video powerhouse, and Sony is now giving it the same XAVC S codec found on its RX100 III and a5100 models via firmware update v.2. This allows for 1080p/60/30/24 and 720p/120 resolutions at a bit rate of 50Mbps. Aside from the new firmware, a SDXC card is the only other thing you’ll need to get started. Right now the update is only available to Windows users in Europe, but we expect that to change shortly. Find out how to get it.

Sony brings Cyber-shot DSC-WX220 and W810 to the US
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX220 and W810, which have been available in certain markets for several months, are making their way onto US shores in August and September. The WX220 features an 18.2MP BSI-CMOS sensor, Bionz X processor, 25-250mm equiv. lens, 1080/60p video, and Wi-Fi with NFC. The W810 offers a 20MP CCD, 26-156mm equiv. lens, and 720p video. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 compared to Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10
When it was introduced last year, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 was peerless. It was the first superzoom to offer a 1″-type sensor, much larger than the 1/2.3″-type chips commonly found in that class.
