NPPA and World Press plan ethics symposium following contest disqualifications
The National Press Photographers Association and World Press Photo plan to hold a symposium later in 2015 to talk about ethics in photography, following news that 20% of the photos entered in the World Press Photo contest were disqualified after reaching the penultimate round, due to digital manipulations of some sort being discovered. Meanwhile, the NPPA has called on the photographers disqualified from the contest to release their photos to the public. Read more

Russian gay rights story wins World Press Photo contest for Danish photographer
A photograph that highlights the difficulties facing sexual minorities in Russia has won the World Press Photo contest’s top prize. ‘Jon and Alex’, from a project called ‘Homophobia in Russia’, shows an ‘intimate moment’ between a gay couple from St. Petersburg and won Danish photographer Mads Nissen the Contempory Issues category of the competition, as well as the first prize for a single image, netting him 11,500 Euro and Canon DSLR equipment. This was not actually a photography competition, per se, but so many of you shared your beautiful photographs, we encourage you all to go back and scroll the comments section for some wonderful photographs and links to reader pages/sites.
The response was absolutely AMAZING with over 1,000 entries! In fact, it was so great that we here at Digital Photography School decided, again, to add a new category of winners – Honorable Mentions – and provide each Honoree with a dPS eBook of their choice. But now… onto the winners!

Nikon offers 1.5 million Yen in kit and cash as top prize in annual photo contest
Nikon has opened the doors to entries for the company’s annual photo contest, and is offering a top prize of 1m Yen (approx. $ 9200/£5600/€7100) in equipment with 500,000 Yen cash for the overall top prize.
