* If you know you’re traveling to an area without coverage or with only spotty roaming coverage, consider turning off your cell phone. Your phone can use a lot of power trying to find a suitable network, although some phones may stop polling after a while to try to reduce this battery hoggishness. One other option if you need to use your calendar, notes, play Angry Birds, etc. is to put the phone in “airplane mode” where all communications are stopped yet local apps should still be usable….

Anyone shooting HD video on a DSLR knows how quickly the battery can drain. You can get AC power adapters for some cameras, but where there’s video, there’s not always an outlet. In this tutorial on DIYPhotography.com, camera hacker Chris Winter shows you how to make an external battery pack system with about nine times the runtime using a $ 40 battery pack, DC coupler, hot-shoe plate and some Velcro. Learn more

Prototype battery fully charges in under 30 seconds

12 Apr

While smartphone processing power, screen resolutions and camera performance have all improved significantly over the last few years, one area of development is seemingly standing still. Under heavy use most smartphone batteries still won’t make it through the day, and once plugged in, devices take a long time to charge. Faster charging batteries are certainly welcome news to smartphone and tablet users but could also reduce the need for carrying spare batteries on longer photographic excursions. Learn more

Battery Grip Installation for Nikon D40 (LinkDelightOz)

15 Dec

Follow Me: www.flickr.com.au ~~~~~ Hi everyone! This is my first video, and a look at a 3rd party battery grip for the Nikon D40/x. The one in the video was purchased from Ebay seller LinkDelightOz for around AUD, which I felt was an excellent price for the product. You can usually also add a few extra dollars and they will send you an extra battery, which I didn’t do because I prefer genuine Nikon batteries, and you can also get a battery grip with an LCD screen if you want to pay twice as much. I would’ve taken that option if I had the money. Hope you enjoy the vid! Matt (and his Nikon, of course!) PS Search “Nikon D40 Battery Grip” On Ebay and you should find the seller, amongst many others. There is a new model grip out and I’ve no idea what it’s like.
