Ricoh has announced the HD PENTAX-DA 20-40mm F2.8-4 ED, the first zoom lens in its Limited series. It boasts a weather-resistant build (another Limited first) and provides an equivalent focal of length 30.5-61.5mm in 35mm terms when mounted to a Pentax K-mount DSLR body. Back in July we highlighted some of the finalists in the 2013 Red Bull Illume action and adventure sports photo competition, and now the winners have been announced in each of the contest’s 10 categories. This year’s overall winner was Lorenz Holder who also triumphed in the Playground and Experimental categories. Click through to see his winning shot as well as the work of this year’s other winners.
BlackBerry is offering up the first major update to its new operating system. The update brings a more restrictive work-only setting, better visualization of device information and an HDR camera mode for users of the Z10 handset. Columbia University has announced the 2013 Pulitzer Prize winners for photography. The prize for Breaking News Photography was awarded to jointly to Rodrigo Abd, Manu Brabo, Narciso Contreras, Khalil Hamra and Muhammed Muheisen of the Associated Press, for their coverage of the conflict in Syria. The winner in the Feature Photography category is Javier Manzano, a freelance photograher, for his ‘extraordinary picture’ of two Syrian rebel soldiers illuminated by beams of light streaming through bullet holes. The World Photography Organisation has announced the winners for the Open, Youth and 3D categories of the 2013 Sony-sponsored World Photography Awards. The organization announced a shortlist for all the categories last month, and will be announcing the professional category winners at Somerset House in London on April 25th. Phase One has announced three new backs, the IQ260, IQ280, and IQ260 Achromatic. Each features built-in Wi-Fi which allows an iPad to be used as a review screen in the field. The IQ260 once again allows for very long exposure times – up to one hour.
