Just Posted: Full-size, real world samples from the Sony A99. We’ve been shooting with Sony’s latest full-frame flagship camera down in San Francisco and Monterey, California as part of a Sony press trip – our first opportunity to get hold of a production-standard camera. We’ve put together a samples gallery taken in a variety of lighting conditions and at a range of apertures and featuring multiple subjects. Click through to see how the 24MP camera performs.
This year the peak of Fall colour in Algonquin Park coincided with the arrival of a production Sony Alpha A99 camera for testing. I was able to spend several days working with the A99 in a range of weather and light conditions, along with a wide selection of Zeiss and G series lenses.

Mounting and usage of Mirex T&S adapter on Alpha 900 full frame DSLR. Mamiya 645 lenses can be used; a Hasselblad + Pentax 645 version is available. Sony has announced the DT 55-300mm F4.5-5.6 SAM, a budget telephoto zoom designed to complement the 18-55mm ‘kit’ lens. It’s optimized for Sony’s APS-C Alpha SLTs and DSLRs, and features the company’s Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) for fast, quiet focussing. Billed as an ideal lens for capturing stills and video of distant subjects, it features an ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) element, which should reduce aberrations and increase sharpness. It will be available in September for around $ 300.
