Google+ app update adds Snapseed editing and location sharing abilities

Google has updated its Google+ social media app for both Android and iOS. The latest version of the iOS app adds some of the company’s Snapseed app features including basic editing tools and a limited selection of filters. While the Android version doesn’t offer the Snapseed features yet, like the iOS app it offers the ability to share location, and improves the way one can see images and interact through posts. DxO Optics Pro 8.1.4 adds Olympus XZ-2, Nikon 1 J3 and Panasonic GH3

DxO Labs has released version 8.1.4 of its DxO Optics Pro software. Both the Elite and Standard versions gain Nikon Coolpix P7700, Nikon 1 J3, Olympus XZ-2 iHS, and Panasonic DMC-GH3 support. The update also adds more than 200 lens and cameras combinations for Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Sigma, Tokina, and Zeiss users. These modules join the existing list of over 11,000 combinations. Click through for the download link.

Vimeo adds ‘Looks’ filter effects for videos

Video-sharing service Vimeo has partnered with video-editing company Vivoom, to add a filter effects tool called ‘Looks’. More than 500 effects ranging from vintage to futuristic and can be applied during video upload. Each effect can be adjusted from 0-100% intensity. Looks will be free to Vimeo’s registered users for the next 90 days. Read more at connect.dpreview.com.

Google Drive adds photo preview and video streaming

Google has announced the addition of a photo and video preview feature to its Drive cloud-storage service. Following the lead of competitor Dropbox, Google Drive now allow users to navigate photo and video files in a preview screen. Currently this feature is available only for its Android app users. DxO Optics Pro 8.1.3 adds Leica-M9, Nikon D5200 and Panasonic FZ200

DxO Labs has released version 8.1.3 of its DxO Optics Pro software. The Elite edition of the latest version extends support to the Leica M-E, the M9, and the M9-P rangefinders. Both the Elite and Standard versions gain support for the Nikon D5200, Panasonic DMC-FZ200, and Canon SX50 HS. The update also adds 260 lens and cameras combinations for Canon, Leica, Panasonic, Sigma, Sony, Tamron, Tokina, and Zeiss users. These new lens correction modules join the existing list of over 10,000 combinations. DxO Optics Pro v8.1.3 is available for immediate download from the company’s website. Apple Raw Compatibility Update v4.04 adds nine more cameras

Apple has added Raw support to its OS-X operating system for nine additional cameras, including Nikon’s D5200, Pentax K-5 II/IIs and Sony’s DSC-RX1. Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update v4.04 also brings Leica X2, D-Lux 6 and V-Lux 4 support to Aperture and iPhoto. Panasonic adds DMC-LZ30 35x budget superzoom to lineup

Panasonic has introduced the DMC-LZ30, a 35x superzoom offering a 25-875mm equivalent zoom range, based around a 16MP sensor. The LZ30 features a large, 3.0″, 460k dot LCD and uses a CCD sensor, restricting it to 720p HD video output. In common with most of the cameras being launched at CES, it features a resolution-boosting extra zoom mode, HDR, panorama function and a choice of pre- and post-shot creative effects.

Canon adds Pixma MG6320, MG5420 and iP7220 printers, plus CanoScan 9000F Mk II

Canon has added three wireless Pixma photo printers and a CanoScan photo scanner to its imaging products range. The Pixma MG6320 (MG6350 in Europe) and MG5420 (MG5450 in Europe) are wireless photo all-in-ones (combined scanner/printers)while the Pixma iP7220 (iP7250) is a standalone wireless photo printer. The MG5420 and iP7220 are five ink printers (CMYK plus pigment black), while the MG6320 adds a grey ink. All three printers can be used to print wirelessly from Canon’s latest Wi-Fi models such as the PowerShot S110 and EOS 6D. The CanonScan 9000F Mark II is a standalone scanner with film adapter, allowing film to be scanned at up to 9600 x 9600dpi.

Google+ adds topic-focused Communities feature

Google has added Communities, the ability to create topic-focused groups, to its Google+ social network. The Communities option makes it easier for people with common interests to discuss and share photos around themes. Connect has highlighted a couple of photography-related groups that have already started to attract members.
