Sony adds XAVC S support to Cyber-shot DSC-RX10

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 is a video powerhouse, and Sony is now giving it the same XAVC S codec found on its RX100 III and a5100 models via firmware update v.2. This allows for 1080p/60/30/24 and 720p/120 resolutions at a bit rate of 50Mbps. Aside from the new firmware, a SDXC card is the only other thing you’ll need to get started. Right now the update is only available to Windows users in Europe, but we expect that to change shortly. Find out how to get it.

Ricoh adds HD Pentax-DA645 28-45mm F4.5ED AW SR to medium format lens lineup

Ricoh adds a new lens to its 645 medium format lineup, the weather-resistant HD Pentax-DA645 28-45mm F4.5ED AW SR. Covering a 22-35.5mm equivalent range in full-frame terms, it uses 17 elements in 12 groups. It’s Pentax’s first optically stabilized lens, with SR Shake Reduction technology that claims to compensate for camera shake for an additional 3.5 stops. The lens is dust- and weather-resistant, becoming available in August for a price of $ 4,999.95/£3,399.99. Read more

Pentax firmware v1.10 for K-3 adds diffraction correction

Pentax has released new firmware for its flagship K-3 DSLR, adding a new function – diffraction correction to the lens corrections menu. Firmware v1.10 also improves processing times when Digital Filters and Color Fringe Correction are applied, tweaks exposure bracketing in TAv mode, offers improved AWB performance and the usual ‘improved stability for general performance’. Impossible adds B&W ‘Hard Color’ Limited-edition Instant Film

Instant-print maker Impossible has added a new line to its ‘special’ and ‘limited’ editions with a 600-type film that features a colored frame surrounding the image area. Joining a line of tinted emulsions and animal-skin-printed frames, B&W 600 Hard Color features a warm high-contrast emulsion with frame surrounds in eight different vivid colors. Read more

New Fujifilm X-series firmware adds direct instax printing

Fujifilm has announced a firmware update for three of its X-Series camera, allowing them to print images instantly from the instax Share SP-1 printer. The Fujifilm XQ1, X-M1 and X-A1 cameras updated with the new firmware will be able to send photos directly to the compact instax printer, rather than by way of mobile device as is currently the case. The firmware should be available in late June, and Fujifilm plans to add the feature to more cameras. Learn more

Apple Raw update adds support for Canon G1 X Mark II and Nikon D4S

Apple recently released Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 5.02 for Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11. The update adds Raw image support for the following four cameras: Canon EOS Rebel T5, Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II, Nikon D4S and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10. Get the update

Lensbaby adds Android option for its selective focus lens

When Lensbaby launched the  Kickstarter project for its ‘Sweet Spot’ selective focus lens at the beginning of April it was initially iPhone only. Now the company has added a pledge level for Android users, too. For $ 50 you can pre-order the Sweet Spot lens and the Android application for your device. Delivery is expected in October. Learn more

Google Camera app now on Kitkat and adds Lytro-like effect

So far Google’s in-house camera app has only been available on Nexus devices but now a new version of the app is available to anyone in the Google Play Store. The app only works on devices running Android Kitkat 4.4 but Google is planning to make it work on older versions too. It comes with a minimalist design and a brand new feature called Lens Blur to simulate shallow depth-of-field. Learn more

Fuji adds grips, grip strap, and extended eye-cup accessories for X-T1

Fujifilm UK has announced a host of accessories for its X-T1 mirrorless cameras. These include two extra accessory grips for the X-T1, which build on the features offered by the MHG-style grips already available for the X-series cameras. The MHG-XT Small and Large offer a choice grip sizes and include integrated Arca-Swiss compatible flanges, as well as full-time access to the battery port. Other accessories include a deeper viewfinder eye-cup and a handgrip-style strap that’s compatible across the X-mount range. Pricing and availability dates have not yet been announced.

Nikon adds underwater housing and flash to 1 System

For those who want to take a swim with Nikon’s latest 1 System mirrorless camera – the J4 – the company is also releasing both an underwater housing and speedlight. The WP-N3 housing lets you take the camera up to 45m underwater and supports several 1 System kit lenses. It also has a port for connecting to a strobe, such as the new SB-N10, which has a maximum depth of 100m and works with the already waterproof AW1, as well.
