CyberLink launches subscription-based PhotoDirector 365 with premium add-ons

29 Nov

CyberLink has launched PhotoDirector 365, a new Windows program that is effectively a subscription version of the company’s PhotoDirector Ultra image editing software. The new option provides customers with unlimited access to the software’s premium add-ons, new style packs that are released quarterly, templates, and all new feature updates as they become available.

PhotoDirector 365 includes the new features found in PhotoDirector 10 Ultra, including AI Style Effects and tethered shooting. Other PhotoDirector tools, such as Layer Packs, Keystone Correction, and HDR, are also available. With the addition of all the add-ons, CyberLink says PhotoDirector 365 subscribers get access to “hundreds of dollars’ worth of unique tools” over time.

Whereas PhotoDirector 10 costs $ 99.99 USD for new customers to purchase, PhotoDirector 365 is available with a monthly cost of $ 14.99 USD, a quarterly cost of $ 29.99, or an annual cost of $ 54.99, depending on which plan the customer signs up for. PhotoDirector 365 joins CyberLink’s Director Suite 365, which bundles PhotoDirector with three of the company’s other software products for an annual cost of $ 129.99 USD.

Plug & Plop: Urban Add-Ons Turn Street-Side Bollards into Seats & Tables

06 Aug

[ By WebUrbanist in Design & Furniture & Decor. ]

Designed to act as barriers, bollards are a common sight in cities around the world — but what if they could engage rather than just separate?

This series of simple additions from Teratoma dubbed PLUG A SEAT aim to transform (or at least extend) the function of the bollard, converting rows of columns into arrays of seating and table space.

The lacquered aluminum surfaces add a bit of color along with functionality, and have a variety of potential applications — they could be affixed permanently, or added temporarily by individuals eating lunch downtown, or deployed during street festivals.

These extenders can also be sized to fit different dimensions of bollard for different metropolitan areas (though one might hope that a future iteration could be able to expand and contract on demand).

In the grander scheme, these kinds of simple guerrilla furniture designs highlight potential new uses for old extant infrastructure. And who knows: maybe bollards will start to lose their original function as self-driving cars take to the streets, but instead of being removed could find second lives serving other purposes.

Guerrilla Kindness: Add-Ons Make Cities more Convenient

21 Aug

[ By Steph in Design & Fixtures & Interiors. ]

Hacktion 1

Three designers sneak around Paris, quickly installing brightly-colored machine-fabricated objects onto public chairs, phones, vending machines and other urban surfaces to make them more convenient to city residents. They call it ‘Fabrique-Hacktion,’ taking extra steps beyond what city officials are willing to fund with tax dollars to create a more comfortable and welcoming place to live.

Hacktion 3

Little slides shoot coins out of the receptacles in vending machines to make them easier to retrieve. Coat hooks hang helpfully from rock walls near bus stops. Tension bands hold newspapers against the wall of the subway, offering them to each new rider in turn.

Hacktion 5 Hacktion 4

Highly recognizable in bright shades of orange, blue and green, these thoughtful conveniences even go so far as hand-crank phone chargers and reflectors on top of the red and green lights of metro ticketing machines so users can tell from far away which machines are working and which aren’t.

Hacktion 7

Beyond just installing these items themselves, the designers offer up an explanatory video, manual and all construction plans and files for download on their website so anyone can take the project to their own city.
