  • Studio comparison pages added to Fujifilm X100S Preview

    fujifilm_x100s.png

We’ve just added three pages of studio test data to our preview of the Fujifilm X100S, following the publication of a gallery of real-world samples, last week. The X100S is the successor to the popular X100, and offers a fixed 35mm (equiv.) F2 lens, and a version of Fujifilm’s APS-C format X-Trans sensor with hybrid phase-detection AF. A host of other, smaller improvements should make the X100S a considerably more appealing camera than its predecessor. Click through for a link to the updated preview to see for yourself how it compares to its peers in our studio.

  • Studio comparison images added to Panasonic GH3 Preview

    specs.jpg

We’ve just posted an update to our preview of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3, adding updated product photography (the camera we originally used had a non-final grip material) and three pages of studio comparison images, both JPEG and Raw. We’re working on the remaining studio tests, and intend to add at least four more pages to this preview in the next few days, with a samples gallery and more detailed impressions on the camera’s handling and performance. Look out for that towards the end of the week, but for now, click through to go to the updated preview.

  • Nikon D5200 added to our studio comparison database

    nikon_d5200.png

We’ve added the Nikon D5200 to our database of studio comparison images. We’re in the process of running a production D5200 through our studio tests, so wanted to present the results of our standard test scene. These test shots are also available from other reviews and the standalone tool, which can be accessed via the ‘Review Comparison Tool’ link in the Reviews menu on any page of the site. We’ll be adding a complete set of studio and real-world sample images to our previously-published preview in the coming days, but in the meantime, click through to see how the D5200 stacks up to the competition in terms of JPEG and RAW image quality.

  • Canon EOS 6D sample images added to hands-on preview

    6Dsamples.jpg

We’ve added a gallery of real-world and studio images to our Canon EOS 6D preview. The EOS 6D won’t be available until at least December but we’ve been able to borrow a pre-production model for which we’ve been allowed to post samples. We’ve shot with the camera in a series of lighting conditions, using a variety of lenses, including the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 II USM and the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM. We’ve also shot an ISO sequence under challenging low-color-temperature artificial light. Click here to see how Canon’s latest full-frame challenger performs.

  • Canon G1 X preview updated, ISO samples added, gallery to come

    G1X.jpg

We’ve spent a bit more time with the Canon PowerShot G1 X, and will be publishing a samples gallery from a pre-production camera in the near future. In the meantime, we’ve taken the chance to expand our preview based on our further experience and some real-world shooting with the camera. This includes observations about its behavior and a chart showing the camera’s maximum aperture at key focal lengths. If you have any burning questions about the camera’s behavior, write a comment and we’ll do our best to answer when we publish our samples gallery (but do please read the updated preview first, to see if the answer’s there). [Updated with studio images at all ISO settings – with real world shots coming on Monday]

  • Nikon V1 comparison shots added to dpreview database

We’ve just posted studio test samples from the Nikon V1 – the Japanese manufacturer’s enthusiast-targeted small sensor mirrorless camera which is built around what the company is calling a ‘CX’ format 10MP CMOS sensor. In the process of working on the forthcoming in-depth review of the V1, we have shot our standard studio test scene. To allow easy comparison with its peers, we have now added these shots – both out of camera JPEGs and processed RAW files (with Adobe ACR 6.6 Beta) – to our comparison tool, found in our existing reviews. The V1 can now be selected from the pull-down list within any review or in our standalone comparison tool.

  • Leica M9 comparison shots added to dpreview database

We’ve just added Leica M9 studio shots to our comparison tool. As part of our forthcoming review of the Sigma SD1, we’ll be comparing it to a range of large-sensor, high-resolution cameras, which meant including the Leica M9. The shots, actually taken with an M9-P, should not be seen as a signal of a full review of the camera but do help put its image quality in context against its peers.

  • Sony DSC HX100V 16.2MP superzoom samples added to studio comparison tool

Just Posted: Studio comparison shots from the Sony DSC-HX100V. We’ve just got hold of Sony’s latest superzoom, the 16.2MP HX100 and shot our standard test scene with it. It’s built around the latest 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55mm) back illuminated CMOS sensor and offers a vast 27-810mm equivalent 30x zoom. Being Sony’s top-of-the-range superzoom, it features a manual control ring that can be switched between controlling zoom and or manual focus. We also have one of its main rivals – the Panasonic DMC-FZ150 in the studio and will add that to the comparison tool as soon as we can.
