  • Rhino Arc II 4-axis robotic camera system supports 15lb camera payloads

Rhino has launched a Kickstarter campaign for its new Rhino Arc II, a “robotic camera assistant” designed to replace a fluid head. The Arc II features a 4-axis motorized head with support for both tripods and the Rhino Slider, as well as up to 6.8kg/15lbs of camera equipment. Users have both joystick and mobile control options.

Rhino Arc II supports LightLapse, Interview, Keyframe, and Rack modes for smooth camera movements in a variety of filming scenarios. The robotic assistant supports Rhino Focus and the High Torque & High Speed Motor as optional tools for expanded capabilities.

The system is also backwards compatible with the Rhino EVO Motor and Slider EVO. When used with an optional Rhino Power dummy battery, Arc II offers integrated power output for mirrorless and DSRL cameras. Other features include an integrated 501 plate receiver, an OLED screen, and a pan motor for motorized mounting.

Rhino is offering the Arc II to Kickstarter backers who pledge at least $ 960 USD, a $ 240 discount over the anticipated retail price. The campaign also offers other rewards for backers, including the Rhino Slider Carbon, Slider Pro, and Rhino Arc II + Slider bundles. Shipping is expected to start in May 2019. • Edelkrone launches SliderPLUS X and Motion Kit 4-axis motion control system

Accessory-maker Edelkrone has launched its latest motion control product for videographers. The SliderPLUS X & Motion Kit is a slider and motion head combo that offers 4 axes of control – slide, pan, tilt and focus, all controllable via a smartphone app. Edelkrone claims its new rig is the ‘world’s smartest and most portable 4-Axis motion control system.’

The system allows you to lock the lens and focus onto a subject for a slide. You can program complex motion by movements the head and slider manually to ‘record’ the motion and it’s possible to create looping sequences as well. Edelkrone is still working on a number of features that will be added at a later stage via app and firmware updates respectively. Eventually users will be able to convert programmed motion paths into time-lapse or stop-motion animations and the camera will be controllable during live recordings. You’ll also be able to program your lenses into the system, so focus calibration can be saved for future use.

The SliderPLUS X & Motion Kit will set you back $ 3,700, $ 1,000 for the slider and $ 2,700 for the Motion head. That’s a serious investment, but given the rig might help set your videography apart from the competition it could well be worth it from a business point of view. More information can be found on the Edelkrone website and in the video below.

  • Vivo Xplay6 features 4-axis stabilized 12MP dual-cam

Chinese manufacturer Vivo has unveiled its high-end model Xplay6 and the new device comes with an interesting (at least on paper) dual-camera setup. The main sensor is a 12MP 1/2.55″ Sony IMX362 chip with a 1.4um pixel size. It is coupled with a fast F1.7 aperture lens, four-axis optical image stabilization and a dual-tone LED. Phase detection AF is on board as well and the main sensor is supported by 5MP secondary chip for depth measurement, which will presumably be used to create a ‘fake bokeh’ effect.

The front camera comes with a 16MP sensor and F2 aperture and images can be composed and viewed on a curved 5.46″ QHD AMOLED display. Also included are a fingerprint sensor and a headphone-jack with dedicated amp. Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Vivo’s Funtouch OS 3.0 are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and a whopping  6GB of RAM. 128GB are available for storage and a 4,080 mAh battery should get you easily through the day.

All the high-end components are wrapped up in a metal body that is available in gold or rose gold. The Xplay6 will become available in China on December 12 for approximately $ 651. No detail on international availability has been released yet.
