30 May, 2014 – Panasonic GH4 Video Primer

30 May

The new Panasonic GH4 is to my mind one of the most exciting new cameras to come down the pike in quite a while. While an excellent stills camera, it is the GH4’s video capability that sets it apart. This is the smallest, least expensive camera that can shoot 4K video and record it internally to a memory card. Oh yes – and the image quality is exceptional.

But because of the camera’s capabilities and versatility it can be a bit intimidating. I have therefore written a video primer for the GH4, which I hope will help you not only with a possible buying decision, but also once you get your camera.

Back in 2012, Jesse Chen – now an engineer at Facebook, but then a fresh graduate – wrote a blog post. In that post he explains how to get rid of the ‘ugly copyright overlay’ typically used in image proofs, posted online or sent out by professional photographers after events. Essentially a short guide to image theft, the post went unnoticed at the time, but two years later it has come back to haunt Chen, creating a storm of righteous anger from photographers on social media. 28th May, 2014 – Celebrating 15 Years

28 May

May 28, 2015 marks a special date for The Luminous Landscape – 15 years of dedicated and continuous publication.  We’ve come a long way and we have a long way to go.  The last 15 years has seen a remarkable change in photography.  Going from a predominately analog (film) world to digital capture and output.  I know if someone would have told me 20 years ago I would be doing my photography entirely without film, photographic paper, chemistry and darkrooms I would not have believed them. Today we share our Last 15 Years

Photography is in its golden age.  More people are taking photographs every day than ever before and these images are being shared in staggering numbers.  Cameras, computers and output have become easier and better.  The Luminous Landscape will continue to bring you the latest information and articles as well as workshops, video tutorials and much more.  As we look back at the past 15 years we find ourselves even more energized to see where the next 15 years takes all of us.

25 May, 2014 – The Ultimate Mirrorless Camera Strap?

26 May

The passion of photography for many soon turns into an addiction as we look for the latest and greatest gear.  This includes camera bags and now camera straps.  Kevin Raber today reviews The DSPTCH Camera Strap System.  It’s a modular camera strap that works well with the small format cameras mirrorless cameras.  It’s definitely a strap to have but beware it will lead to a new addiction.

Have you checked out the Kimberley Workshop next April.  This is definitely one that should be on your bucket list.
