Starlight Express 2nd US Tour 2004 Race 2

This is Race 2, from the Starlight Express 2nd US Tour, 2004. The film portion of the race was directed by Julian Napier and also used in the 1st and 2nd UK tours as well as the New Zealand Arena Tour. The double/blurry image in the film that you see here is because the films were presented in stereoscopic 3-D, designed to be viewed with polarized 3D glasses which caused the images to push out beyond the confines of the flat screen and into the audiences faces.

Roger Cicala investigates Canon’s AF marketing claims

Lensrentals’ Roger Cicala has published the third part of his investigation into Canon’s autofocus systems, looking at what’s changed behind the marketing claims. It’s not unusual for manufacturers to promise that their products are ‘new and improved,’ but explanations about what’s been changed or how much of an improvement it offers are harder to come by. Cicala has delved into Canon’s patents (and taken some lenses apart), to see exactly why the EOS 5D Mark III’s focus so consistently out-performs its predecessors’.

A Camera that Shoots at a Trillion Frames Per Second

Think your new DSLR shoots a lot of frames per second? You have not seen anything yet!

In this video Ramesh Raskar from MIT reports on a camera that they’ve built that shoots at a Trillion Frames per second.

While not something we’re going to see in our DSLRs or camera phones any time soon this concept has big implications in Science and could be used some day to build cameras that can look around corners or see into objects that it is photographing.

“BREATHE” 3D version

To watch this video as it’s unintended to be seen you will need to have a pair of 3D glasses. To learn more about watching youtube videos in 3D please check out the help section. This video has been uploaded before in 2D. Because the elements where put together in a After Effects 3D space adding a second camera to get a 3D rendering was possible. I’m not sure if it is an effect that’s worth work for my style of animation – but I thought I would play around with it. If you don’t have 3D glasses you can still watch the video in 2D format.
