10 Meter Challenge: Weekly Photo Challenge

06 Nov

10-meter-photography-challenge.jpgThis week we’re going to go back to the theme of the first ever photo challenge here on dPS. It stemmed out of a quote from @chasejarvis on Twitter who said:

“There are at least 10 great pictures within 10 meters of you right now.”

I thought that sounded like a good challenge and issued it to dPS readers. The response led us to issue a weekly photo challenge.

It’s been over a year and a half since we did that first challenge so lets go for it again.

Your challenge is to take up to 10 images within a 10 meter radius of where you’re currently reading this challenge. Of course we can’t police whether you go further than 10 meters – but the exercise is to grow in your photography right where you stand/sit/lay right now.

You don’t need to go to an exotic destination to take a great shot – it could be right in front of you right now!

For those of you not into metric – 10 meters = 32.808399 feet – so you’ve got a bit of distance to play with considering you can go 10 meters in any direction from where you are now.

Once you’ve taken your shots upload the best of them to your favourite photo sharing site and either share a link to them below or embed them in the comments using the our tool to do so. Please note it sometimes takes us a while to approve comments with images as there’s a moderation queue – particularly over the weekend.

If you tag your photos on Flickr, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag it as #DPS10METERS to help others find it. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.

PS: don’t forget to check out some of the great photos shared last week in the ‘Spooky’ challenge.

MAHLE CamInCam™ camshaft

06 Nov

This 3D Animation shows in photo realistic quality construction and function of the MAHLE CamInCam™ camshaft. This world novelty enables variable valve timing and therefore higher torque and performance at lower fuel consumption. The new CamInCam™ camshaft is an ideal solution, particularly for engines with OHV (OverHead Valve) and SOHC (Single Over-Head Camshaft) valve trains. Due to its variability, ideal intake and exhaust timing can be adjusted for any driving condition. The MAHLE CamInCam™ camshaft is the only variable valve control available in the market for this type of engine. The results are improved performance, higher torque, lower fuel consumption, reduced emissions, and improved idling behavior.

Fargo 1893-2009

06 Nov

www.DanFrancisPhotography.com This is a history project I was working on for myself and will be the opening show at the 10 year anniversary of the Fargo Renaissance. It is a collection of old photographs with updated 2008-09 pictures that I took. I researched the pictures, figured out where the photographer was standing, and took the same picture the photographer would have way back then. It was a great project to work on, and I’ll continue to work on this project for many years. www.DanFrancisPhotography.com

“Wind Turbine” “VAWT” “Wind Gin” Long Version

05 Nov

“VAWT” “Wind Turbine” Feel “free” to use any of these “concepts” in your “windmill” designs. The wing or plate that swings on a vertical rod has been around forever and the rest are just “conceptual designs” that I came up with. An engineer proficient using AVIs stress analysis application could determine structural integrity issues using these drawings. Who knows; maybe someone will perfect this “design concept” and build them to the same height as the large HAWTs. I (think) “Vertical Axis Wind Turbines” have the leverage potential to produce more power at lower wind speeds. I am amazed by the large HAWTs and many of the modern VAWTs but I hope that engineers, innovators and last but not least, financial risk takers will continue to find ways to lower the required wind speed. Constructive comments are welcomed. If you do not have any, Yes We Can! works for me. Thanks for viewing.
