3D stereoscopic anaglyph, part_2 entering artgallery

15 Aug

For a perfect impression of the architecture of the virtual art gallery please visit the videos chronological, starting with part 1. Part 2: In this video you have been landing at the heliport of the gallery and you will be walking over the bridge and entering the gallery. At the end the „Cockpit (a kind of elevator) moves down from its location under the roof of the gallery. Mark Mender, one of the top german fashion photographers between 1961 and 1981 started a new carreer in 1982 in television post production, computeranimation and corporate video with his new company TV-ONE Studio. Since 2000 he started experimenting and producing 3D stereoscopic videos, first „interlaced for shutter glasses, later on also in „cross view pairs for screen projection. Having a lot of vintage prints and transparencies of his work as a fashion photographer, Mark Mender started 2006 to use his tools for computeranimation and editing to create his own virtual art gallery as website and DVD www.fashion-photography-gallery.com The gallery is a big modern building with realtime walkarounds, 8 slideshows and 5 Pavillions with special themes, like fashion photography in egypt, bali, tahiti and evern Alaska. Now there is also a 3D stereoscopic version available to be shown at vernissages and art exhibitions. An idea how it looks like in 3D you can see here as anaglyph videos for red/cyan-glasses. There will be more videos, like walks to the 5 Pavillions in the near future. The complete 2D full

Anaglyphs! (Stereoscopic 3D iPhone Game)

14 Aug

This is a video walkthrough of Anaglyphs!, the first Stereoscopic 3D game for the iPhone. Viewing in 3D requires red/cyan 3D glasses. Please note that video compression is not kind to anaglyphic 3D images, though it will give you a good idea of the game’s features. See boiledgoose.com for screenshots! Available feb 17th for iPhone and iPod touch.

READ THIS BEFORE COMMENTING NOTE: Must have anaglyph glasses (red/cyan lenses) to properly view this video. Mirror’s Edge being played on the PC with PhysX enabled in stereoscopic 3D (anaglyph) using the IZ3D driver. The stereo setting used is “Optimized Anaglyph” which turns all red-colored textures in the game yellow and dulls any blues (this is done as to not interfere with the red/cyan stereo effects used for anaglyph glasses as they would conflict with each other). Using anaglyph as a stereo isn’t perfect. Primarily, you can’t make both near and distant objects perfectly 3D–you must give and take. This is done through seperation and convergance. (I’m not going to explain how these work.) By adjusting the seperation and convergance you can make near, middle or far objects appear 3D. If near objects are 3D then most distant objects will be out of focus and vice versa. With a game like Mirror’s Edge, I made distant objects appear 3D (since the game is based on vertigo) so anything up-close will be out of focus. Additionally, anaglyph is an “outdated” stereo mode and not only skews the video’s/game’s color palette but isn’t –as– effective in making things appear 3D as current stereo modes used today (think of the “RealD” 3D experience you often see in movie theaters these days). Computer Specs: Pentium Quad Core Processor 2 NVidia 8800GT graphic cards using SLI 2GB RAM (I know, this is seriously under-powered) There may be times when the frame rate drops below 30 FPS

Ground Effect 1.1 now in Stereoscopic 3D

13 Aug

Ground Effect Version 1.1 now featuring Stereoscopic 3D mode via red/cyan glasses If you have other colored 3D glasses check out our other videos. Ground Effect does not require 3D glasses and runs faster in standard mode: Standard Stereo 3D iPhone 3gs & iPod Touch 3g 60 FPS 30 FPS iPod Touch 2g 40 FPS 20 FPS iPhone 2g/3g & iTouch 1g 30 FPS 15 FPS 60 FPS = awesomely smooth, 40 FPS = Very smooth 30 FPS = smooth (the rate that most console and fast iPhone games run at) 20 FPS = Playable but noticeably less smooth than in standard mode 15 FPS – Semi-playable but will have a small impact on your ability to get fast times, for serious play use standard mode.

1+1=4D: Stereoscopic Video in Real Time

13 Aug

In 1993, I discovered this technique using two video cameras, two video projectors and two sets of polarized 3D glasses to create live stereoscopic video. The effect is AWESOME! It must be seen to be believed. This video only hints at the possibilities. The cameras could be very small and close together creating a stereoscopic view as if one were miniature in a giant world or very far apart creating a 3D view as if one were a giant in a miniature world. Just imagine! If anyone ever uses the technique I would be thrilled to know about it. I tried to interest the Exploratorium in the idea for possible exhibit development but they passed. With little chance to develop more on my own, I release it to the world. You’re welcome! -Michael Joseph Woody

Stereoscopic 3D Workflow in After Effects – Tutorial 2 (1/4)

12 Aug

PART II: Processing & Editing Stereo Footage In this tutorial you’ll learn how to use the stereo scripts for Adobe After Effects in order to prepare and edit stereoscopic video footage. Again, please note that this is just an exemplary workflow that you are free to modify according to your needs. Also, this tutorial is not a comprehensive explanation of the stereo scripts – only very few features are demonstrated. I highly encourage you to play around with the scripts; you’ll definitely find ways in which they can help accomplishing your stereoscopic work. Admittedly, the examples in this tutorial are not too fancy (they’re actually pretty ugly), but their purpose is merely to provide a technical demonstration. It’s up to you to take it from here and apply this knowledge to great, ground-breaking projects. By the way, I am aware that After Effects is not an editing tool. However, you CAN (in small amounts) use it as such. Alternatively, you can adjust your footage on a shot-by-shot basis in AE, export the shots separately and edit them in a dedicated piece of software, like Premiere, Final Cut, Avid or the best of all, Windows Movie Maker. But then the process is not as fluent, since you can not interactively adjust your footage depending on what your edit requires. You can download the scripts here: pinkau.com/download/aestereoscripts.zip

Phurion – Waltz – 3D Version(Superbowl Anaglyph Glasses Required!)

10 Aug

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE SUPERBOWL OR COLOR CODED ANAGLYPH GLASSES, THIS WILL NOT WORK. Instead, you can check out the non 3D version. This is a different type of video than I normally make. Its not really a montage, but it sorta is. Its a video from 1 clip(A Kilimanjaro) I got in Multi-Team on Foundry. Its definitely different, and I think it came out pretty well. ALSO- I know this is not TRUE 3D, but it somewhat works. Music: Waltz #2 played by Audrye Sessions (Original by Elliot Smith) -Phurion
