T-Rex 3D Film – Scharfe Augen – Spitze Zähne

13 Feb

Sharp Eyes – Big Teeth Production: Meike Ulferts Arthur Ulmann Sound: Christian Gädtke “Sharp Eyes – Big Teeth” is a documentary about the prehistoric Tyrannosaurus Rex. It is a 3D animated Stereoscopic Film which describes the hunting habits of this extinct predator. The film presents up to date scientific theories wrapped in an amazing little narrative. The focus of the film is the three dimensional view of the Tyrannosaurus Rex which enabled it to detect its prey. The stereoscopic images are designed to be entertaining and informative at the same time. Our exchanges with the noted paleontologist and geologist Dr. Annette Richter, of the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover, allowed us to realize this short film, which demonstrates current scientific theories on the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The project was developed at the University of Applied Arts and Science in cooperation with the State Museum of Hanover. It will be a permanent video installation at the museum’s Dinosaur Exhibit, entertaining children and adults alike. People are fascinated by dinosaurs but most probably will never have a chance to see them roam the Earth again. Computer animation allows us to experience first hand a life-like and scientifically accurate 3D recreation of these extinct creatures.

Getting Down and Dirty

12 Feb

Now we are getting down to the nitty gritty. As I explain in this stereoscopic video, the Bloggie 3D camera is really only good for subjects about 3 to 15 feet away from the camera, but there’s still plenty of options for good depth. BTW, the “Auto Adjust” function in the Stereoscopic Tools in Sony Vegas did not cooperate in this shot. It obviously doesn’t like grass. No problem, since the amount of vertical parallax is so small. And, I have a solution. Stay tuned. 🙂 I left the floating window alone in this one, ie it’s basically the same as the last two videos. Like I’ve said a bazillion times… this ain’t rocket science, peeps. ;/ Plus, I’m having so much fun with Vegas, I’d rather fill up some water balloons than mess around with a floating window right now… LOL. Next week, things might be different… Lots of variables to explore…

Elephants Dream 3D (“still some small glitches” version)

31 Jan

YouTube changed the 3D player; Videos must now be squashed, which this is not — that’s why the aspect is distorted. Elephants Dream is the story of two strange characters exploring a capricious and seemingly infinite machine. The elder, Proog, acts as a tour-guide and protector, happily showing off the sights and dangers of the machine to his initially curious but increasingly skeptical protege Emo. As their journey unfolds we discover signs that the machine is not all Proog thinks it is, and his guiding takes on a more desperate aspect. Originally released in 2006, Elephants Dream got a carefully directed stereoscopic makeover in 2010, rendered at Digital Cinema 2K Flat resolution. HD Download (1920×1038): dl.wolfgang-draxinger.net For obtaining a DCP (~15GB) in either SMTPE or Interop format please contact me by YouTube direct message. www.elephantsdream.org Since releasing the video I found another set of glitches, the most notable a (very short) shot, in which there’s no eye separation. I already fixed this for the download releases and also will add an improved version here.

Anaglyphic 3D movie. To view use a set of 3d glasses with the red filter over the left eye and the blue filter over the right eye. There’s a cross eye 3D version of this film here: www.youtube.com and you can also see some still photographs here: www.panoramio.com 26 August 2007. Locomotive 3007, a 60 year old engine originally built in Glasgow returns to the city and is put on display in Goerge Square. The 180-tonne steam locomotive which spent its working life in South Africa is to be an exhibit in the new Riverside Transport Museum. This is my first experiment with my new digital 3D camera setup. I usually do still 3D photography but my new sony DSC-V3’s do video so I thought I’d have a try at a 3D movie. For those who ask how it’s done: You have 2 cameras strapped together with the lenses separated by about 6.5cm just like your 2 eyes. Start filming with your 2 cameras at precisely the same moment (that’s the tricky bit – I use a box of electronic tricks to do this but you could also do a bit of post production editing to get your 2 films starting at precisely the same moment) You take the 2 resulting films and combine them with a program like “Stereo Movie Maker” which is excellent and free, so no reasons not to try it. StereoMovieMaker will allow you to chose from several different 3d formats and will render up the final movie for you. Gimpel3D Basics – Model Projection:

24 Jan

Gimpel3D converts still images and video into stereoscopic 3D using a combination of traditional approaches and a proprietary projective modelling system. www.Gimpel3D.com This video shows a basic example of using a generic head model to create facial features. The projection alignment is reached by associating feature points in the frame with points on the geometry model. Once the initial position of the model is established, it can be animated and keyframed to follow the face throughout the clip.
