[MODIFIED] Mozilla Firefox – Misc – Organize Downloads Better by Saving Them Where You Want

07 Apr

Force Mozilla Firefox to save downloaded files to a folder of your choosing.

Many people are fine with Mozilla Firefox downloading files to the standard Downloads folder. However, if you grab many different types of files it may make things easier to save files in different places. Store downloaded DRM-free music in one folder, game demos in another, backups of work documents from Google Docs in yet another location, etc. Making this Firefox configuration change is easy.

1. Access the Firefox Options dialog box. You can either click the Firefox logo button and choose “Options” – “Options”, but I prefer just pressing ALT + T, then the letter O….

Mozilla Firefox – Plugins and Extensions – Add Print and Print Preview to Context Menu

16 Oct

Right-click on a web page and choose to print or print preview the page with the QuickPrint extension.

Do you frequently print web pages viewed in Mozilla Firefox, sometimes accessing the Print Preview feature to make sure your hardcopies look as intended? If so, you may find it frustrating to go through Firefox’s menus or use the Ctrl+P keyboard shortcut to access these features.

If you prefer using the context menu (right-click on Windows, Option-click on Mac), consider the “QuickPrint” plug-in. Just right-click a webpage and access the “Print” and “Print Preview” options from there. It’s that simple!…

With the DblClicker extension you can double-click links to open up new tabs, useful for search results pages.

When browsing a webpage in Firefox that contains a lot of links, such as a search engine results page, have you found yourself opening each link in a new tab so you can easily switch back to the results page instead of having to use the back button?

If so, you probably have either held down the Ctrl or Command (Mac) key while clicking on each link, or you have right-clicked on each link and selected “Open Link in New Tab”….

Mozilla Firefox – Tabbed Browsing – Completely Disable the New Tab Page

14 Jun

Completely disable Firefox’s New Tab Page, including the top-right button.

Newer versions of Mozilla Firefox show a “New Tab” page whenever you open a new tab. This shows the top sites accessed with the browser so you can frequently get back to them.

While many people like this feature, others would rather have a clean page when opening a new tab, not needing to see their most-visited sites. Plus, depending on their security / privacy configuration, they may not see any sites on this page, only nine blank rectangles. Thus, you can click the button at the top-right of the page to hide the sites / rectangles. However, that button still exists, and some people want a completely clean new tab page……

The AutoCopy plugin for Mozilla Firefox automatically places selected webpage text into the clipboard without you having to do anything.

Let’s face it – most of the time when you select text inside a webpage viewed via Firefox, your next step is to copy it to the clipboard for pasting inside another web page, word processing document, e-mail message, etc.

[MODIFIED] Mozilla Firefox – Plugins and Extensions – Generate Passwords Automatically with pwgen

22 Sep

If you’re tired of creating passwords every time you log into a new web service, the pwgen extension can generate passwords for you.

Although some web services let you logon with a preexisting Facebook, Google, Twitter, or Yahoo account, many still require generating user accounts where you need to enter passwords. Required for security, good passwords should include a variety of characters including lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and punctuation symbol. However, generating these passwords can be cumbersome.

The “pwgen” extension for Mozilla Firefox can help reduce some of the annoyances when signing up for new accounts by creating passwords for you. New passwords are automatically copied to the clipboard so you can paste them into websites and (optionally) password management applications. And if you don’t like a password or don’t find it tough enough for your needs, just click the “P” again to generate a new one….
