Thank you very much for this solution. It worked as well for a D266XT (chip was below the CPU!) Best regards from Germany! (Lake of constance!)

Just done this successfully on a D610.
Note that the chip is in the same area of the board as where the cmos battery is – on the back. You’ll need to remove the base of the plastic case and annoyingly there’s a strut across the chip but you can access the pins with a steady hand.

hey pete- i successfuly shorted the chip and cleared bios thanx 2 your video! instead of taking everything apart, i simply cut a small peice of the metal frame out to expose the chip, and shorted with a safetypin and a rubber glove =) only issue im having is it now boots to safeboot security 4.2 and requires another pass. i tried admin and it times out. any way you can help? do i need to reinstall the OS? thanks again!!!!

Also works on Dell PPX. Motherboard looks a bit different, but on UNDERSIDE of mthrbd, look for small eight legged chip labeled 24WC02. Short same pins as in video. The chip has a small indent or dot next to pin #1. Pin numbers start there and count in a counter-clockwise fashion. Find pin 3 and 6, they are directly across from eachother. Tap the soldered wires during boot, and VOILA! lovely. Using a paperclip is possible but awkward since the chip is on underside of mobo.

I’m actually a technician at a small computer shop, and i do all the laptop work there, I saw this, tried it out, it works GREAT. Awesome, thanks! also, my bos is a real stickler when it comes to hardware fixes, thinks everything is done with software, it’s like a constant battle, and it was great to rub this in her face!
