Gudsen’s Moza AirCross gimbal can provide both stabilization and power

13 Jan

Gudsen has launched a new gimbal that’s aimed at mirrorless photographers. With a payload of 3.9lbs/1.8kg, the new Moza AirCross can provide stabilization to a mirrorless body even when it’s fitted with a cinema lens, and a new in-handle option can provide power to Sony and Panasonic cameras while they’re shooting.

The Moza AirCross offers a more lightweight alternative to the Moza Air—which is aimed at compact system cameras and small DSLR users. It also has a number of newer features, including a claimed 12-hour battery life, and the ability to accept power from an external power bank.

The handle holds three 2000mAh batteries that can run the gimbal all day, or be used to power a range of compatible Sony and Panasonic cameras via a dummy battery pack that fits inside the camera. As the gimbal can also take power from a portable power bank, Gudsen claims that users need never run out of juice.

Another new feature is a quick release system that is compatible with both Manfrotto 501PL and Arca type quick release plates. The system allows users to remove a camera from the gimbal head and refit it later without having to rebalance the whole rig. Auto-tuning via the Moza app ensures the gimbal remains balanced for the weight and distribution of the attached equipment, and the gyroscopes are said to offer calibration-free IMU technology.

Gudsen has also added roll-follow to yaw-follow and yaw-pitch-follow to the range of movements on offer, and users can expect to be able to tilt between -175° and +135°, and achieve 360° of yaw and roll.

The gimbal itself weighs 896g and 1/4in threaded ports allow accessories, microphones and monitors to be mounted on the handle. The AirCross can produce move-stop-shoot-move long-exposure timelapse sequences with a fully programmable path via the Gudsen app, and the accessory thumb-controller provides wireless mimic-movements when mounted on the optional handle-bars.

Certain Sony and Panasonic models can have stop/start recording controlled via the main handle, while some Canon DSLR models can have their focus controlled too. Gudsen has promised that firmware updates in the future will add aperture control to the AirCross.

The Gudsen Moza AirCross is on sale now for $ 420 at the Gudsen website.

Compatible cameras:

  • Sony a7SII, a7S, a7RIII, a7RII, a7R, a6500, a6300, a9, RX100

bay house

A stunning blend of old and new, this lovely oceanfront home is intertwined with remnants of an industrial ruin; the two are combined while differentiating existing from added architecture.

beach floating home

The house seems to grow out of the deserted walls of the former structure, resting above and pushing beyond them. Designed by Razvan Barsan + Partners of Romania, the program of this seaside California home consists of a series of residential buildings and outdoor decks leading out to a private island.

reused architecture industrial site

Local materials like wood, reed and bamboo along with modern lines and copious amounts of glass set the additions apart from the existing remains of both functional and ornate masonry.

industrial containers

Miscellaneous metal cylinders and barrels were also left, the primary home space floating above them on the shore.

Invisible Buses: Photorealistic Prints Provide Moving Urban Camouflage

03 Sep

disappearing bus 1

The streets of Vilnius, Lithuania are full of ghost buses that blend right into their surroundings while passing through intersections as if only existing in translucent ethereal form. Matching up to the scenery beyond when glimpsed at just the right moment, the buses are momentarily camouflaged thanks to photorealistic printed imagery mounted to their exteriors for this summer’s Vilnius Street Art Festival.

Lithuanian artist Liudas Parulskis collaborated with Studio Vieta to print full-scale scenes from the city onto public trolleybuses, a charmingly retro mode of transportation that has remained popular here despite being replaced by newer transit systems in many modern metropolises. ‘Vanishing Trolleybus’ is a temporary installation encouraging pedestrians to try to catch a glimpse or a photo of the effect in action at just the right ‘vanishing point.’

One bus appears to be covered in imagery depicting traditional local architecture, while others capture specific street scenes around the city. Parulskis added a wolf running across an intersection to one of the buses, winking at the unofficial mascot of the city.

Floatel: Modular Floating Hotel Rooms Provide Portable Privacy

20 Jul

[ By WebUrbanist in Boutique & Art Hotels & Travel. ]

floating hotel main structure

Combining centralized shared spaces like a conventional hotel and the mobility of a catamaran, this award-winning hybrid combines elements of community and seclusion on the water.

floating hotel design

Each individual unit comes with a standard living room, kitchen, bathroom and sleeping loft as well as deck space and a driving area for taking your space around a lake or sea. Meanwhile, the lobby structure bridges the gap between land and water and provides reception, restaurant, event and cafe spaces. Design themes also create a connection between the modules and the whole, including wood slats and white surfaces.

The rear-facing deck provides space for sunbathing and fishing, while also framing uninterrupted views of nature. Side and front windows can be closed off for privacy, or opened when venturing out on the open water with no nosy neighbors around to sneak peaks inside.

Designed by Salt & Water, the approach won a 2015 Millennium Yacht Design Awards for innovatively integrating architectural and nautical systems to create a unique experience for guests. Like the Botel, this remains a conceptual design for now, but clearly something is in the water since firms keep coming back to this novel combination of ideas.

Transportable Tourist Towers Provide Stackable Housing

22 Feb

[ By Steph in Architecture & Houses & Residential. ]

Transportable Tourist Tower 1

Prefabricated, portable and modular, the Transportable Tourist Tower (TTT) by Portuguese architect Jose Pequeno is an adaptable housing solution that can be installed on almost any site, vertically or horizontally, as a single unit or a larger stacked structure.  Capable of being made from local, recyclable materials, this nearly self-contained unit is ideal for temporary installations and sensitive building sites.

Transportable Tourist Tower 2

The tower debuted at the 2010 Shanghai Expo and has since made its way around the world, installed in various locations as a tourist information center. It needs as little as 10 square meters for its installation, fitting into tight spaces. It can be transported on a truck, and lifted into place with a crane.

Transportable Tourist Tower 3

Transportable Tourist Tower 5

Vertically, the Transportable Tourist Tower can be placed alone or side-by-side. But what makes this unit even more versatile is its ability to be placed on its side. All of the components within the building are flexible and modular, making them easy to move, remove or replace as needed.

Transportable Tourist Tower 4

The three-story unit is packed with functionality despite its small size. It contains a living space, dining area, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, study and rooftop deck. It’s easy to imagine this tower in use at large events such as the Olympics, where compact housing is only needed for a short period of time.
