[MODIFIED] Internet Explorer 11 – Hide Pictures to Speed up Web Browsing

14 Apr

On a low-speed Internet connection or paying for bandwidth? Configure IE11 to stop showing pictures.

Are you performing research on the Internet with Internet Explorer 11 on a slow Wi-Fi connection at a coffee shop? Or, perhaps you’re using a mobile broadband service that will throttle down your speed, or at worst stop working, if you consume too much bandwidth? If so, you can configure IE11 to stop showing images to cut down on data transfer.

1. If you are using Windows 8.1 and have Internet Explorer 11 open in “Metro” mode, close it. With the latest version of Windows 8.1 you can just move the mouse pointer to the top of the screen until an “X” appears at the top-right, then click it. Now open Internet Explorer 11 in the Desktop mode (WIN + D, then click Internet Explorer on the Taskbar)….

[MODIFIED] Google Chrome – Clear Browsing Data including Cookies, Flash Cookies, Cache, History, and Saved Passwords

07 Apr

For privacy, clear the data Google Chrome stores regarding your browsing history.

Even though Google Chrome supports “Incognito” browsing where history information is not kept and cookies are removed after browsing (press CTRL + SHIFT + N to open an “Incognito” window), you might accidentally forget to use this mode. Google Chrome supports a feature where without the use of any extensions, you can clear browsing and download histories, the cache, cookies, Flash cookies, saved passwords, saved form data, and/or other details….

Mozilla Firefox – Tabbed Browsing – Completely Disable the New Tab Page

14 Jun

Completely disable Firefox’s New Tab Page, including the top-right button.

Newer versions of Mozilla Firefox show a “New Tab” page whenever you open a new tab. This shows the top sites accessed with the browser so you can frequently get back to them.

While many people like this feature, others would rather have a clean page when opening a new tab, not needing to see their most-visited sites. Plus, depending on their security / privacy configuration, they may not see any sites on this page, only nine blank rectangles. Thus, you can click the button at the top-right of the page to hide the sites / rectangles. However, that button still exists, and some people want a completely clean new tab page……

12 Sep

Wise Disk Cleaner Free can remove usage histories, temp files, and other junk from your Windows hard drive and registry.

The longer you run Windows, the more junk accumulates on your hard drive and in the Windows Registry. This includes stuff like temporary files created by installation programs that never get properly removed, search histories, web browser cache and cookies, and most recently used file lists.

Besides clogging up your hard drive and filling up the Registry, junk can actually slow down your machine due to increased file and registry key seek times. One option for removing such files is the “Wise Disk Cleaner Free” application. This program through a tabbed interface can perform basic scans to clean junk from your system. Advanced scans allow you to select files by type. A “Slimming System” scan removes files you may not need including sample pictures, help files, and IMEs that allow for the inputting of various languages into applications….
